This just in: “consumers are flocking to social networks and other participatory venues to the extent that this activity is now considered mainstream,” according to recent Forrester Research. The polling indicates that 2008 has marked a huge growth spike for social media, with a majority of users now taking part. A consumer poll in the 2Q08 found that 75% of Internet users participate in some form of social media, up from 56% in 2007. Forrester found large growth in participation among those reading blogs and writing reviews: And social media isn’t just for the young folks, anymore! In another sign that social media has gone mainstream, Forrester found the participation gap narrowing among age groups, (although younger demographics still rate higher).
