CMGR: What's your favorite reference for inspiration or advice?

  • Do you have a favorite book, blog post, discussion thread or piece of documentation that you frequently refer to while building and maintaining your community? What is it? Why is it your favorite? Please share! Your fellow community managers want to know!

  • I guess I’ll be the first to belly up to the comment bar and sorta answer my own question. ;) The reason I asked in the first place is because I do refer to a lot of sources on a regular basis. Some of those sources aren’t just texts, but people I know and trust have great community manager insights. But, I will confess, and this is going to sound to spammy I’m sure, I refer a lot to Telligent’s World Class Community whitepapers. I guess because I was essentially reared on them when I got here a couple years ago. But, they do have a lot of the basic information you need when it is time to get back to basics.

  • I use the basic Telligent Support Forum.

It is populated with so much information. What I like about the Support Forum is; I can find solutions or ideas to solve solutions that range from basic-to-advance, in terms of difficulty.

Alternatively, MarketSqr (The Company that I work for), has a daily news letter regarding procurement topics. The news is populated from across the world, from many sources.

One category is Business-2-Business Social Media. I sometimes form ideas, when reading these articles, to establish trends and to help my own community.

  • Juan, I love that you love the Telligent Support forum! :) Telligent's core value is the customer comes first, and I think the support forum is at the heart of it.

Wow, I like your daily newsletter too. What do you use to put that together? It looks really good.

I just published a blog post on the Telligent blog about some of the resources I refer to a lot when it comes to managing a Telligent built community. Check it out and tell me what you think.

  • Cool I'll go and check it out.

We use a system called Curata. The software allows us to list different sources and categories of news.

The system then populates the news from these sources (in the different categories) everyday. There is a process of moderating content, that is done by us, to ensure that our subscribers receive the highest quality procurement and supply news.

  • That's very cool. I want to check it out for myself. Do you see a lot of site traffic generated from the curated content?
