Welcome to the Social Media & Community Manager forum! Share a little bit about yourself with the group. I'll start. :)
Name: Jenn Emerson
Job: Social media and community management for Telligent (now Zimbra)
My community: telligent.com/community
Challenges: Re-engaging older communities, spam, trolls, apathy
Successes: Engaging internal communities and social media channels
Favorite social application: Telligent Community (obviously!)
Wish list: An all video based community
Hi everyone--I just started as web & social media administrator for the American Occupational Therapy Association. Part of my job is managing our private community on Telligent. I've been managing social media and/or online community for the past 5 or so years. My social media platform obsession (right now) is Pinterest--LOVE it!
Welcome, Maggie! Glad to have you aboard. Sounds you have a lot going on! So, are you using Pinterest in your social media strategy for AOTA?
They use it but only a bit--I'm hoping they give that part to me, because Pinterest works great for the profession the association represents (occupational therapists). I used to be the community & social media manager at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and I managed Pinterest there and it was huge--the biggest source of traffic back to the site and pins would get hundreds of repins. Even though I haven't worked there in almost a year, I'm still proud of those boards! www.pinterest.com/ashaweb
Nice curating, Maggie! I agree, Pinterest probably would continue to be a great channel for AOTA.
Hi all...I am moving into my third year as the community manager of a private space for families dealing with developmental difficulties (Autism, ADHD, etc). I am continually trying to grow my skills and look forward to connecting with others using Telligent/Zimbra platforms.
Welcome Elizabeth Alford! I really admire what you are doing with your community. What would you say is your biggest challenge?
Meant to introduce myself ages ago! Better late than never.
Name: Karen Hamilton
Job: Web Manager for Sage North America's internal communications properties. I'll be project lead for the upcoming Telligent deployment.
My community: Externally, our colleagues run Sage City (sagecity.na.sage.com). We will launch Telligent into our existing Sitecore intranet, SageCentral, in 2014.
What we're looking for advice on: building critical mass, getting the architecture right, finding community admins/moderators from within existing workforce, integration with Sitecore / Active Directory, planning a successful pilot, doing mobile right
Wish list: thriving social exchange so I can ask all of you for advice :) We will share our learnings, too, of course!
Ha! Hey Karen Hamilton! Nice intro. :) So, when you say build critical mass, you mean getting all your employees engaged in the community?
Yes. We have several thousand employees in NA, but we don't want to bring them on board all at once. We know we want to have a staggered pilot, bringing in groups a few at a time with a specific use case that they can really get behind. But I'd love to hear what others have done to have a successful rollout.
By far my biggest challenge is engaging people who may be not wish to be members of our community. Membership is required for all of our professional consultants and the families they work with. And since there is a hefty subscription fee, sometimes people feel like 'community' is being forced on them. My engagement is up 20% since last year, but it has been extreme challenging.
Elizabeth Alford, 20% is awesome! Rob always says, "social is not a sprint, it's a marathon." At least I think he always says that. Somebody I respect a lot does. No. Wait. Yes, it's Rob. :) Anyway, I hope you got a big pat on the back considering the challenges you mentioned.
Elizabeth Alford and Karen Hamilton, when I start to look at a challenge, I always start back at the beginning - why do I have a community in the first place? What is my goal? The answer will always inform your strategy in any situation.
My name is Doug Bierer. I am a CPA, CA located in a rural area of Ontario, Canada. I work with an IT firm that is a managed services provider, (MSP) which relies heavily on Zimbra. We have seen for a number of years the great value that this tool has.
I am hoping to learn more about the tool and different ways that it is used to assist us in better supporting our clients.
I'm looking forward to this evening's webinar.
An all video based community would be interesting.
Welcome Doug! Glad to have you aboard! Do you currently use a social community tool like the one we are using here in this forum?
I feel a little awkward telling you this, but the live webinar was this morning. Are you saying you are going to watch the recording this evening? Or did you see the webinar posted with a later time somewhere? Let me know and I can help you get a hold of the recording if you need.
I missed the webinar but would love to see a recording if possible.
