Problem installing Mail Gateway locally

This question is answered

When, on Telligent 6, I run install.bat in the Mail Gateway directory I created in m Program Files (x64) directory,.I get the following error:

An exception occurred during the Install phase.

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Telligent6\Mail Gateway\Telligent.MailGateway.InstallState' is denied.

Then it does a "rollback" and doesn't create the Mail Gateway service. (There's more to the log than this, but that the error part.)

My permissions are set correctly, I believe (the "Telligent6" user has write permissions on the Mail Gateway directory).

Any idea what my problem is?

  • Doh! instead of running the command window as administrator, I had just selected the install.bat file, right-clicked and "Run as administrator." When I did that, nothing happened (except the command window flashed briefly.) So I then simply clicked install.bat, getting the error I posted.

Now that I've run the command window as admin and then run install.bat from the command window, all went fine.

    Thanks!

  • Sorry, I just noticed that I don't seem to have a Telligent.MailGateway.InstallState folder among the files I copied into my C:\Program Files (x86)\Telligent6\Mail Gateway directory. So I guess I'm not dealing with a full deck. I'll go try and find why I'm missing that directory.

  • Are you running the install script from an administrative command prompt window?  Given hat Mail Gateway's installed to the Program Files directory, you typically won't have rights to create files in this directory without an Administrative prompt.
