Widgets disappear from Widgets panel during Edit page

This question has suggested answer(s)

Weird behavior in Telligent’s ‘Edit Page’ option: On Edit Page screen, there is a list of widgets & Change Layout option that appears at the top. Many a times when we go to ‘Edit Page’, this list disappears and we cannot see any Widgets and Change Layout options for using them on the page. In such cases, we need to cancel the operation and need to restart Telligent after clearing the browser’s cache but this temporary work around doesn’t work for each time which delays our development. We frequently see this in IE and less frequently in Mozilla Firefox. Additionally we found this issue specifically when there is a ‘Scrolling Banner’ widget already available on the page.

a.Is it something related to Browser?

b.Do you recommend any specific browser or version that supports Telligent usage without any issues?

c.Is there any other way by we can get this fixed?

We are using Telligent 6.1

  • Hi Vinay.  I have a few questions:

What browser and version are you using?

When you mention "Scrolling Banner" widget, what is the full name of this widget? Is this a custom widget?

Is it possible some custom widgets are unintentionally breaking the page?  You could try this by removing those widgets from a page and seeing if the behavior continues.

  • Hi Michael,

This happens mostly in IE. But we have seen this in FF too. I was referring to the scrolling banner widget from telligent.com/.../1351402.aspx

We have seen this issue by removing this widget too, But happens less frequently when this widget is not there.

    Thanks!

  • Can you confirm what versions of IE and FF you are using?  I haven't used this widget before, but I've just tried it and have looked through its source code, and I haven't been able to recreate the issue yet.

Are there any other customizations which perform client-side actions that could potentially be impacting this?  Any custom theme or widget JavaScript?  Also, would it be too much trouble to ask you to capture a quick video of it using something like http://screencast.com/?

    Thanks!

  • No other custom themes or widgets. Here are the version details.

    IE : 8.0.7601.17514

    Firefox : 12.0

I have attached screenshot for your reference if that helps!

  • The video file can be found at www.screencast.com/.../DHdpiXrTWn . Password being - Widgets.

  • Thanks for the video.  I noticed it demonstrates a page containing at least one unfiltered HTML widget.  Does this same behavior occur on factory default page layouts with no widget customizations?

  • This page does not have any customized widgets. We have seen this issue even without the unfiltered HTML widget.

  • We still continue to face this issue. Any guidance would be helpful.

  • Are there any javascript errors on the page before you go into edit mode?  You may need to use your browser's developer tools to check for these.
