My dreadful experiences with Telligent

  • A word of warning to those of you using or considering using Telligent products.

Here’s a brief outline of my problems over the past 12 months.

    CS2008.5

    1. CS2008.5 crashed 3 days after going live and took 2 days to get running again.
    2. Wikis and several other major pieces of functionality didn’t work properly.
    3. Telligent released a security patch but my build # was listed as unaffected.
    4. A couple of months later a Telligent employee went on to my site and then informed the world on the Telligent public forums that my build was indeed subject to the security flaw and that over 600 (yes 600!) files in my installation would need to be patched.
    5. Rob Howard (ex CEO and now CTO) got involved and informed me that my install was running pre-release software.  Yes, you heard right!!
    6. Telligent suggested I had downloaded pre-release software by mistake, whereas in fact it was installed and supplied by a combination of Telligent and a Telligent recommended partner in Dallas.
    7. I was paying $800 a month for pre-release software.
    8. Telligent refused to help until my install was running a current build and at this time the partner attempted to fix it. And why not? They’d taken $6k from me for pre-release s/w.
    9. After 3 months we were no closer to a solution other than the partner advising me to switch to DNN.

    Telligent Community 5

    1. Caught between a rock and a hard place, I tried migrating my 2008.5 site across to the new Telligent Community 5 Product.
    2. What a waste of time. TC5 had several major bugs several of which were not fixed in Sp1. You get the impression that TC5 was rushed our prior to proper testing.
    3. A week or so later I took my site offline.
    4. I recently brought this FARCE to the attention of Intel Capital who have invested serious cash in Telligent.
    5. Intel listened, said they were sympathetic and promised to try and influence Telligent.
    6. That was 2 weeks ago and despite Intel’s involvement, I have heard nothing from Telligent.

So here I am, no site, no software. Thousands of hours wasted and $6000 down the can. Now for the first time in 14 months of Telligent hell, finally venting my frustrations in public.

For any prospective customers thinking of purchasing Telligent software you might want to take a good hard look at the issues I faced and from what I have read elsewhere in this forum, I am not alone in feeling disgusted at how Telligent have acted.

    Regards

    Chris

  • Update:

Following extensive discussions with Telligent, we have now reached a reasonable compromise.

Although it's not my preferred solution, the outcome, all things considered is reasonable and addresses many of my issues.

I would like to thank Richard Z at Telligent for his patience and the folks at Intel for listening and advising in what was a very complex situation.

    Regards

    Chris.

  • Wow... that sounds pretty scary.  What was the resolution?  How is the solution working for you now?

I've been a big Telligent fan for quite sometime, and we've been considering using Telligent Community again.
