I'm using the REST API and all timestamps are being returned in the server's local time. Using the Info endpoint I can get the timezone info of the server in UTC format which does not incorporate daylight savings time into the UTC offset. This results in a difficult situation to convert timestamps into the user's local time. If all timestamps would use the universal format conversion would be effortless. Alternatively if the info endpoint would introduce a new property that returns the correct GMT offset (reflecting DST) that would also be sufficient.

Various REST enhancements

Hi there, I have the following requests for the REST API. I think they are all new features, but if some are currently in place please clue me in! If you'd prefer I break these out into one per message I can do that as well.

1. Forum threads - Ability to OR ThreadStatus values in ForumThreadQueryType when retrieving threads. The retrieve unanswered questions endpoint only returns those having a status of Unanswered, but I'd like to retrieve those having Unanswered and AnsweredNotVerified in one call. The current workaround of making two calls and merging the lists is inefficient and supporting paged results is a nightmare.

2. Forum threads - Ability to mark all threads as read

3. Forum replies - Ability to retrieve only those replies that are answers to a thread.

4. Forum replies - Ability to return replies in the default viewing order of the website where answers appear at the top followed by all replies in their post order.

5. Forum - Ability to email subscribe to a forum

Thanks,

I am a relatively new user of the Telligent admin panel, so please do point me in the right direction if I'm missing something.

You have two features that don't seem to be connectable or related in any way to each other having to do with user recognition. These two things are the point earning system, and the rank system. Maybe you already have this on a list for the future - I know this version of the software is fairly new so there are probably some improvements already in the works. Here is my basic problem:

You have this highly configurable "point earning" system. You can get points for posts, replies, correct answers, friending someone.... a whole bunch of stuff. The point values are adjustable in the admin panel. Good stuff. Great stuff even.

Then, you have this not-so-configurable "ranking" system, in which you can configure and name pre-set ranks for achieving certain numbers of posts.

Why are these two features not connected? As it stands, there is no logical reason to have both features enabled unless they are related to each other.

In my perfect world, I would deploy the following things to make this feature a lot more useful than it is:

change the ranking system so that ranks are based on the amount of POINTS someone has earned, not the amount of posts they've made.

A "leaderboard" that can display user rankings in few different areas. The community homepage (or root group if you will) would have one that lists the top 10 users community-wide. Each individual group would have one that lists the top users in that group. Each forum component or wiki component would also have a leaderboard that only tabulates points earned in that particular application.

Again, I'm only just getting my feet wet with the admin features, so maybe I'm missing something that I shouldn't be - but if I'm not - this is a critical disconnect between a fairly rich point-earning system and a ranking feature that really ought to be directly related to the point earning system.

Thanks,

I currently work in Knowledge Management at US Africa Command and one of the things we try to steer people away from is the old Explorer-style storage of files in folders nested within folders. We've tried to push using a standardized set of tags instead that help expose the data to the search engine, but it's kind of like herding cats, if that's not too military of a metaphor.

People simply don't want to do that, whether it be through genuine work overload or habit.

I get asked a lot of the time why it's important to move away from using folders and even though I always repeat the same line, I think to the end users it sounds like a pointless culture shift.

I think it'd be much easier if group owners could simply click an "X" by the post, be asked to verify if they want to delete the post, then the post recursively deletes from all data streams. It's messy when you delete a post but you still see references to it in other places.

Ability to Search a User's Bio

This would be nice to have feature.

wiki - most popular pages

I think it'd be great if Wiki pages counted page views, like blog posts do. Admittedly, I've not used TC 5 extensively yet, I still have 2008.5 SP2, but I've not read that this feature has been implemented, even though it sounds easy enough to achieve.

It means that admins could write blog posts for others who either aren't technically skilled enough, or simply don't have the time. Impesonation goes some way to helping, but if you prefer to use a blog application like Live Writer, you can't impersonate.

As a school district, we have parent, student, and staff profiles within Telligent Community and we do not always want to allow user profile requests. For example, we only allow student profiles to be viewed by staff, whereas staff can view all user profiles.

We have worked around the shortcoming by adding code directly to the ~/Themes/generic/User/userprofile.aspx page that redirects to an error message if the profile request is not allowed; however, it would be much cleaner if this code was added as a CSModule attached to an appropriate CSApplication event.

If this event existed, it would be wonderful if the event's EventArgs object could contain:

the User object belonging to the requested Profile or, at minimum, the user's UserId or Username.

the context (membership group) where the request originated from, if available.

We have a need to access the blog post ID from the ATOM feeds of Telligent Enterprise group blog ATOM feed. We are able to access the ATOM feed by using the blog URL - http://localhost/telligent/sample_group/my_test_private_group/b/weblog/atom.aspx, however we are not able to find the post ID of individual blog posts within the feed.

There is an "<id>" field as per the ATOM specification which would contain the ID of the entry. In the above Telligent ATOM feed URL, we are observing that the "<id>" tag contains the URL to the blost post instead of the blog post ID. There is another tag "<link>" which also contains the same URL as the one thats present in "<id>" tag.

Is there a configuration change that can be made in Telligent so that it includes blog post ID in the "<id>" field instead of URL to the post? Or is there any other configuration that can be changed to have blog post IDs sent in ATOM feeds?

Appreciate any suggestions/thoughts. Thanks.
