iPhone Ipad application for Telligent Community

This question is not answered

Hello, I was wondering if anyone is planning to build an Ipad or Iphone application especially for Telligent Community? I myself are interested in it, but are not able to do that. Thx Frank

  • I would love to see that!

  • I can see this being a big hit in the Humanitarian Assistance space, if the app simply pushed and pulled status updates and didn't load the entire site.

  • Hi Jordan, can you please explain a little how this would be interesting in Humanitarian Assistance? By the way. Checkout the mobile skin from Telligent. m.telligent.com. Is that what you meant?

  • Frank,

I've seen a couple of low bandwidth versions of TC (the Telligent one doesn't work with IE, btw), but I was thinking more of a downloadable app that volunteers and responders could install to BB, iPhone, Android, etc. & then interact with an existing installation of TC.

I guess I'm just hypothesizing since I don't know what the bandwidth overhead would be in comparison between a mobile skin and a true mobile app.

It's worth considering though. If you paired it up with a lightweight and easily distributable version of TC you might have a hit on your hands with the NGO crowd.

  • Hi Jordan, Mmm yes I understand. That is what I wanted to use it for too. You talk about only showing the status updates. Does that mean in your opinion that will be enough? Then they will need a browser to acces the full message? I really was thing about a complete App, but see this as a big project.
  • Well, I hate to compare everything to Facebook, but kind of how Facebook captures all the basic functionality into one app without forcing you to use the full site. You make a good point though about the messages or perhaps pictures. How do you handle that from the mobile app.

I think in an HA/DR event you would want to focus on status updates - short but informative, perhaps position reports w/ geo-tagged photos, the ability to send pre-coded messages to the platform (perhaps to reference food shortages, distribution points, security problems, etc.)

    What do you think?

  • To see the mobile application, hit http://m.telligent.com/ using an android or iphone.  Alternatively you can access it using a webkit based browser (Chrome / Safarii) from a desktop computer.

Personally I think that the mobile website is better than a mobile application.  Through a mobile website, you can get a consistent experience across devices, but if you were to write a mobile application, you'd likely end up with a different implementation for each type of

Also don't forget about email.  You can create forums with unique email addresses.  Users can then email those forums (which can include pictures if their mobile device supports it) , and receive updates via email.

  • Hi Jordan and Alex,

The mobile theme of Telligent looks super. I saw it one week ago and it felt as easy as a special application. I contacted Telligent when it will be available and then decided to wait with a special application. I just don't see the possibility with a webbased solution to generate Notifications like with an Iphone/Blackberry App. To my opinion the Notifications are very important for many users, especially in the HA sector.

I agree about Jordans comment that the Facebook App is so easy to use. It's easier then a browser. It's just a lot of work to build special App for all the devices.
