One misstep I consistently see from online community builders – both with and without Telligent software – is trying to launch a  mega-community on day one. They will mistakenly launch with hundreds of blogs, forums and groups.

Unfortunately, this will make an online community feel barren. Groups end up with no members, forums with no questions, and blogs with no posts.

The goal should be to build a sustainable online community that gets more vibrant every day.

You should strive to add groups, forums and blogs only when your existing areas are bursting at the seams. This will ensure that your community members are always receiving new content and new users are always front and center. It will become very obvious that your community is alive and a place well worth investing time.
