Anonymous Visitors for Private Groups

When I scope analytics to a private unlisted group and view the Web Analytics Key Vital Signs report, I see that a number of anonymous users have accessed the group.  I've tested this out with multiple private groups that have never been public and I see similar results.  Any idea why analytics is reporting anonymous users are accessing a private unlisted group?

  • What version of Analytics are you on?
    Have you removed/deleted any users?
    Is this a site behind corpnet/firewall?

    2. Not 100% sure if all the groups that I'm seeing this issue for have deleted users from their groups, but I can confidently say that for a few specific groups, YES, people have been deleted.

    3. Yes, this site is behind a firewall.

  • Let me discuss with the developers about this. If you have deleted users, that would definitely cause an “anonymous” spike. But for the groups that you haven’t, we would like to help investigate this further. I will get back to you tomorrow AM.

    Can I assume you are using Windows Authentication for your Community site? If yes, then that would explain the "anonymous visitors" in a private group. We recently provided a hotfix to correct this issue. I noticed you are on the first release of 3.6. We have had several hotfixes since this release. I can provide you with the hotfix that will correct this issue (as well as provide you some fixes for other important items).
