Tags and semi-colons?

Is it just me, or is it not obvious that tags should be separated by semi-colons?

It took me a while to figure that out, but looking at the tag cloud, I think a lot of other people have the same problem.

Why not add a hint right after the "Tags" label (or under the tags field) to tell users that semi-colons (not spaces) seperate tags?

Agreed. Our tags are a big mess and approaching unusability due to the unclarity of this. It's not hard to add the text by yourself, but the mess is already there.

Even better would be if the tag separator was customizable. It would have been nice to be able to change the separator to space or comma.
