  • I am keen to see wht aimprovements have been made to the forums. The forum has slipped way begind vBulletin.

Why is the link button greyed out.

This is a massive feature that seems to fail consistantly in 2007.

Communities are built round forums and CS just seems to lack the basic tools.

  • No major changes have been made to the forums in CS 2008.  Forums will likely be getting a big make over in the future, though can't say when with any certainty.

What link button are you referring to?

  • Hi bluecross,

I am keen to see wht aimprovements have been made to the forums.

    We've done a couple things:

    1. Enhanced permission model to allow permissions to be declared at the ForumGroup level. This should make mgmt of permissions in forums much easier going forward.
    2. All sidebars now support widgets and the existing sidebar items have been converted to widgets
    3. Full viewer support has been added (embedding images, audio, video - YouTube, MySpace TV, Google Video, ...)
    4. The forums control panel has also been cleaned up
    5. Little bug fixes

As always, we'd love to hear some specific areas that you're looking for to improve the product.

    Hope that helps...

One is glad to be of service...

  • CS I really doubt will ever match VB (VBulletin) feature for feature so I think that dream has to die - those guys have just been at it too long.

However - Many VB users feel like they are being left behind in a web 2.0 world because they don't even have full community features and CMS capabilities and other features that CS has.

There's definitely this convergence going where different pieces like blogs, forums, social networking features, etc are being combined to try and establish a new bar what is a great system with maximum relevance and utility to users.

The good news is it seems CS gets this vision and is helping to define it.

I would agree components such as forums need to be top notch even in this unified world - I just don't think forum feature supremacy is a deciding factor.

Quick reply in the footer of a thread, virtually every other forum out there has it, and I’m sure every CS administrator that has migrated from an existing forum to CS had has their users moan about CS not having this, having the whole discussion available when replying would be good to.

Another thing that I would like to see is the ability to attach more than one image/file to a post.

  • Forum functionality has been discussed before and the quick reply feature has been one of the most asked for features. See this thread, maybe add your voice to the already growing number of admins asking for it!
