Not all users have administrative permissions to write a blog post. Your community administrator can restrict users from writing post to all blogs or to specific blogs. Blog posts are displayed by date and show on the home page of the blog (depending on the date or tag filter defined).  If you have administrative permission to write a post, you will see a link in the sidebar when you open a blog, as shown in the example below:

Procedure

  1.  Click Write a new post in the sidebar. The following page opens in the Control Panel.

 

  2.  Specify the blog settings on each tab.

Write

Allows you to add the title and body text of your blog.

  • Title - Your page title as it displays in your community.
  • Text body - Enter your page text.
  • Tags - Tags used for your page. You can select tags from existing Web sites by clicking Select Tags.

Comments & Feedback

Allows you to enable or disable reader comment and feedback properties.

 

  • Can readers comment on posts - Click Yes to allow readers to comment on the page.
  • Review comments prior to publishing - Select the publishing option. You can allow comments to be published immediately or require approval.
  • Can readers rate posts - Click Yes if you want Community Server to provide users with star rating options on the page.
  • Send email notifications - Specify whether or not to receive an email when a user comments or offers feedback on the page.
  • Multi-user blogging - Click Yes if you want all authors of the page to receive email notifications of user feedback and comments.
  • Display references (trackbacks) - Click Yes if you want to display trackbacks when users visit your page.

Publication Settings

Allows you to specify post publication properties.

 

  • Use post summaries in RSS - Click Yes if you want only the page summary published to other sites when sharing content via RSS feeds.
  • Post Summary - Page summary text that will be displayed on other sites when sharing the content via RSS feeds.
  • When should this post be published - Specify the page publishing date. The setting defaults to the page creation time and publishes immediately when you click Publish.

Advanced Options

Allows you to specify the post priority, such as whether it should be displayed on the site home page or blog home page.

 

  • Display this post on my site's homepage - Click Yes to display the page on the Web site's homepage.
  • Display this post on my blog's homepage - Click Yes to display the page on the blog's homepage.
  • Post URL - Specify any key words for the page's URL. If left blank, Community Server uses the page title as key words.
  • Post this entry on my other blogs (cross-posting) - Click Yes to include the page on any other pages that enable cross-posting.

Preview

Allows you to preview the textual content of your page before you save or publish it. Click here for more information.

  3.  Specify your publishing option.

  • Save and Continue Writing - Saves the content and settings but remains in the page work area so you can continue working on it.
  • Save, but don't publish - Saves the content and allows you to work on something else, but does not publish the page.
  • Publish - Saves the page settings and content and immediately publishes the page.

  4.  Click Save.
