Getting Started with Evolution

In this article, we will outline the documentation that is available for non-administrative users in an Evolution site.
First, we'd recommend that you check out the
Getting Started article that will guide you through the account creation and login process (if necessary).
Once you are able to login, you'll want to get familiar with your home page and the primary applications found in Evolution.
Your Evolution Home Page
Your Evolution home page serves as both a jumping off point to the applications (blogs, forums, etc.) in your network and as a rollup of important content created by fellow Evolution users. You can get a complete overview of the home page and related functionality here.
What's in your forums?
Evolution Forums provide you with traditional forum capabilities while also added full email fidelity so you can interact with the forums in the most convenient way possible. Evolution Forums provide unique views into the discussions on your network. Don't want to visit the forums and don't want to muddie your email with forum content? You can subscribe to the forums via RSS. Read more about the forums application here.
Are you blogging?
Evolution provides a rollup of all blog content on your network. You may be a consumer of blog information but you may also be a creator of blog content. Check out the blog articles for more information on how to use the blog home page and also how to create content in your blog.
Would you like to wiki?
Wikis have become a powerful medium for multiple parties to collaborate on a document. You can use wikis in Evolution to collaborate with your co-workers on all kinds of documents. Evolution wikis enable you to version your content like you'd expect in a collaboration tool. Evolution wikis also give you multimedia functionality so you can do things like embed vidoes in your wiki articles. Read more about wikis here.
Do you work in a group?
With the exception of the smallest companies, it's rare to find people working alone in most organizations today. You know, if you work in a group, that each group in a company is tasked with different objectives. Each group has group specific discussions, announcements, documents, and more. Evolution groups give you the ability to organize your information, content, and people on your intranet in the same way they are organized organizationally. Evolution groups support owners and provide a security mechanism such that the group owners can control who is in the group which in turn controls who has access to group content. Read more about groups and how you can use them here.
Need a place for those files?
In today's intranet, there are files everywhere. How do you keep them organized? How do you make sure that the files you or your co-workers need are in a place where they can find them. Your co-workers need to be able to find the documents but more importantly they need to understand the context of the content. Evolution's media gallery provides a single location for your files making it simple to locate content and use it whether you are embedding it in a forum post or a wiki post. Read more about the media gallery here.
