Google Earth/Maps Integration with Community user database

This question has suggested answer(s)
Has anyone done any google earth integration with Community? Wanted to map our users to a map and have them plotted. Prefer that it would be in a member only section. Would also like to plot event locations on a map as well. Any best practices and code samples?

  • You might want to check out using our calendar rather than the stock Community calendar.  We have a geo-coding API and also Locations are themselves separate entities.  www.4-roads.com/.../default.aspx

  • This is pretty straightforward with the google maps javascript API.  You can crate a profile field to store a location and send that to Google via javascript in a widget.  Or you can use the geolocation objects in modern browsers to get coordinates.

Because you can do this in a widget you can also check if the accessing user is authenticated before showing any of it.
