How can you expand on the "We couldn’t find anything that matches your search." results?

I have noticed that if you are signed in and have an administrators role, when you search for something and get 0 returns, you see this:

Which is really cool. However, if you do not have an administrator role, the same search query gets results in a different user experience:

So, two related questions:

1. How can all signed in members get the same "no results" experience that administrators get

2. There is only one choice in the "Pick a place..." option list...? We have almost 200 community forums... so how can all the forums (or maybe a configurable number of them) be there? I took a look at the settings of the widget and did not see much obvious -- the "Forum to target..." seems to be for one additional forum?

  • My guess is:

    You could drop the search widget within a group, or a separate content page and target it to a specific forum to search in - probably not ideal in your situation.

    As far as the different experience for admins/non-admins - which version are you on?  I can check my install if we're on the same and see what I can find.

  • The config forum you see is meant to be a catch all.  When you set that that forum will always be available in the ask a question drop down(it actually turns that deature on I think).  The box should also contain other forums that is filtered based on the original search(in an effort to try and find the right forum) but if there are no results its possible that it could not infer a forum and will only contain the configured catch all

    Yeah, that's what I figured, but I was wondering could that not be so constrained... maybe allow just joinless group/community forums? Or some sort of configuration? If that should be logged as a Support Ticket as a "change request", I can do that.

  • Not sure by what you mean by constrained.. it uses the search term to find any possible forum match, if the search term isn't enough, it will list only the forum you gave.

    That being said this is all done in the widget..see Search Result List/askform.vm.   You could modify this do whatever you wanted, from changing the query for forums to listing a static list
