Group Pages are Destroyed during CS2008.5 => TC5 Upgrade

  • I built a community in CS2008.5 for a client that makes heavy use of group pages for content. When I upgraded the client's database for Telligent Community 5, I discovered that all of the group page content had been destroyed. (I didn't upgrade the production DB of course.) This seems like a pretty serious defect in the upgrade process, since it destroys content.

I understand from Ken Robertson that Telligent's vision is to use Wikis to replace the group pages feature, which is fine. In that case, the database upgrade scripts should create Wiki sections in groups to preserve page content.

    Thanks for dealing with this.

  • Another not on this issue. It appears that the REST API contains a method for retrieving group pages, but according to my tests the method is completely non-functional. It returns a list of groups rather than group pages.

Could you please either implement the method in the REST API or remove it entirely?

  • Hi John,

With all of the changes to Groups in this release, there are likely going to be some compatiblity issues in the REST 1.0 API since Groups is a much richer entity.

Telligent Community 5.0 and Telligent Enterprise 2.0 shipped with a new set of REST 2.0 end points. At this time the surface area is simply Users and Messages (status/activity) but in the coming releases it will cover the updates to Groups and much more.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Hi John,

Group pages should be migrated for you to a wiki. See: telligent.com/.../group-features.aspx

Please let me know if this is not the case for you.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Group Pages definitely did not migrate. I ran the from the cs_UpdateSchemaAndProcedures.sql script from the TelligentCommunity_5.0.40623.6204.zip installation package, and the script ran without error.

Please let me know if there is more specific information that you need or if you want to take the matter offline.

    Thanks,

  • Okay Scott, upon some much closer scrutiny, here's what I'm finding:

    1. Now I am using the cs_UpdateSchemaAndProcedures.sql fromTelligentCommunity_5.0.40623.6204.zip.
    2. Under consideration is a group that has several 2008.5 pages. It also has a 2008.5 wiki but no wiki pages.
    3. After running the upgrade, I see two rows in cs_Wiki_Wikis associated with the GroupId. One is for the original wiki and one is for <group application key>-pages.
    4. The migrated "pages" wiki does in fact have associated records in cs_Wiki_Pages. One row for each 2008.5 hub page.
    5. However, when I browse the site the migrated "pages" wiki doesn't appear at all, even when logged in as an administrator and group owner.
    6. When I attempt to directly access the wiki by typing it's URL directly, I get an "Access Denied" error.
    7. When I look at the list of applications for the group in the Control Panel, the "pages" wiki is not present.

Hopefully that is enough information to give you a direction to investigate the problem. Let me know if you need additional information.

    Thanks for looking into this,

  • Hi John, I opened a ticket for this earlier today.

If you have a backup copy of the database you are comformtable/able to share, could you please send that to  me?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • I can get you a backup. Let's take the conversation to email/PM to coordinate a hand off.

    Thanks,
