Activity Message List is empty when logged in

If I browse to my community site anonymously, the Acitivity Message List widget on the dashboard shows lots of activity within my community.

However, when I sign in, the same widget on the dashboard page shows no activity at all.

What is determining the activity messages that display on that widget?

    That depends on the display mode that widget is using.  The three modes supported

    * Dashboard - shows activity across the entire site that the accessing user has access to

    * Group - shows activity within the current group that the accessing user has access to.

    * User - shows activity made by the current contextual user.

    If the widget is in User mode, then the dashboard has no contextual user, and so will display nothing.

    The Widget is in Dashboard mode which shows all site activity when the user is not logged in as shown below.

     

     

    However, when logged in, the 'People & Groups' tab is the default selected one which only shows activity for groups the user is in and people the user is following as shown below.  I have enabled the 'All' tab in Dashboard mode to allow the user to view all site acticity and made it the first tab which has solved my problem. Thank you.
