Group Membership Widget displays NO RESULTS cannot track top contributors.

Group Membership Widget displays NO RESULTS cannot track top contributors.

This question is answered

We are looking for a way to encourage users to contribute to the forums. I am trying to enable the points system for our users so that Top contributers will get rank badges as they contribute to the content of our site via forums posts, comments etc. I was told that the only way to display the top contributers is through the GROUP MEMBERSHIP WIDGET.  As all our groups are join-less the GROUP MEMBERSHIP WIDGET displays no results for members. How can we utilize the user points system if we cannot keep track of top members? Is their an alternative way of finding our top contributors?

  • Erin,

Here is the response from engineering:

The group membership issue with points is a valid one. It's known. Points are meant for sitewide reputation. The "Top Members" widget is just that--it's based on the most active members of the current group, and isn't linked to our points system.

  • So is there any other way for me as admin to know who the top contributers are? or who has the most points?

    • We don't have a way to show what users have the top number of user points in the system in the 5.x releases. Points are shown in user hover pop-ups. (To configure points, see this document.) You could conceivably weight the points heavily toward verified answers, rating, and favoriting, or whichever other factors you want to choose.
    • Rank (configure with this document) brackets number of posts (for example, if you add an "Expert" rank, it might be between 200 and 1000 posts).
  • I already have points & ranks configured and I am aware that you can view points by hovering over a username. But are you telling me there is no way for me to view a list of top contributers by points or rank? What is the purpose of points or rank if you can't view or use that data?

  • Hi Erin--

My name is Joe Morel and I'm a Program Manager on Telligent's Product team.

I agree with you--this is a shortcoming of our current release.  We only expose reputation data about individual people, but do not expose any "top users" lists.  We did this because we have been pointing people to use Telligent Analytics for people-comparison, because it is so much more powerful than a simple list of people.

The use-case missing from that is exposing top user information to end-users.  This is something that we are tackling in the next version of our product because we recognize that it's a pain point for our customers and we want to make it better.

The "Top Members" widget is our obvious suggestion for now, but it obviously doesn't work in joinless groups.

Just trying to be transparent--this is something we could do better, and I appreciate the feedback and sympathize with your frustration over this issue.

    Thanks,

    Joe

  • If you are still looking to improve user contribution to your community you might want to checkout our badging add-on for Telligent Community called Bragger Badges. This add-on allows you to create badges based on all sorts of complex community metrics. In addition to badges, it provides a Leaderboard, profile widgets, it ranks users on most badges earned, most points earned, and overall achievement. We have FREE Trials for all of our community add-ons. We also provide screenshots of the badges application so you can get an idea on how it works and what it looks like in the default figi theme. All of our add-on can be themed exactly the same way you theme Telligent Community.

If you have any questions or would like a live demo, please let us know. I am sorry I didn't see your post sooner.

  • Thanks for the suggestion Justin. I will look into this more. :-)

  • Hi Erin,

I just wanted to follow up to see if you have had the opportunity to checkout out Bragger Badges?  Either way, I would love to have the chance to demo it for you.  Seeing it in action will really give you an idea on how powerful this add-on is and what it can do for your community.  If you are interested, please let me know and we can arrange a demo.

    Thanks!
