We have a couple of forums that aren't sending out email notifications on new posts. Wondering if there's a way to check if something was disabled, or if anyone can help.

  • Can you verify what version of the software you are running?

  • Sorry -- it's Community 5.6

    The emails seem to be going out only once in a while (a long while). It's spotty and doesn't seem to have a pattern (i.e., emails go out from a single post on a thread, but not all posts, or from a blog post, but not every post on that blog).

  • Are you running the Job Scheduler?  Are there any errors in the exceptions log or event log pertaining to email failure?

  • Also has this been happening all the time or have you done anything recently and noticed this start happening?  Like a hotfix, new config changes, etc

  • The event log shows no failures, but the exceptions report shows this:

    It's been happening for a while, but like I said, it's spotty -- we have done some changes to the site, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. As far as I can see (just from the emails I'm getting or not), it's been spotty since we began.

  • I"m also not getting emails with replies to this thread. While I have confirmed that other users aren't getting emails, I'm wondering if the fact I'm not getting emails about this thread has some significance.

  • I know emails are at least working for this thread as I am interacting with it completely via email. J
     
    Anything going to junk or could your network be blocking emails?

  • Cheryl, is it possible that the email templates for the notifications have been edited and encoded with "utf-8 with BOM marker"?

    I've had that happen to me and cause at least the second exception you've shown. You can check it by opening the template with notepad2 and see if it's not marked as "utf-8 signature" in the status bar.

  • Patrick, it can't be a blocking or junk mail issue as I do get a sporadic email once in a while.

    Bruno, I'll have to look into that....

  • Can you filter the exception logs by last occurred rather than total occurrences.  The last exception there is from January.

  • The most recent one is from January -- those three in the picture I posted earlier were the only ones that came up.

  • What exact version of 5.6 are you running.  There were some fixes in our december hotfix (5.6.583.21163) which prevented the email job from getting stuck under certain circumstances.

  • We haven't applied a hotfix since mid last year. I think things are working okay now, but I don't know why.
