Completely hide user

I have created an admin user named "api" that we want to use for accessing the REST API but I want to hide this user completely from the front-end but cannot seem to make this happen. Can it be done?

    Edit the user in the control panel(membership administration) and on the admin tab set  “Hide this user’s posts from non-admin members” to Yes and then on the Site Options tab set “Display in members list” to No.
     
    That should do what you are looking for
