We need a way of seeing an overview of permissions through out the community

This question is answered

Telligent permissions are very powerful. You can set global permissions and then override at a very granular level.

However, if administrators have "tinkered" with the permissions at a granular level it's very hard to see what is what. E.g. posting to a forum may be allowed for a role globally, but in one particular sub group some one may have overridden the permission.

It would be *lovely* if you could see an overview of the permissions, or even just the overridden permissions. What would be absolutely super, is if you could see all groups, sub groups, applications (forums etc) in a tree view. You could then select a role(s) and permission(s) and all the nodes in the tree where the permission was denied went red.

Thanks,

Fran

  • Fanhoey, have you tried this: alexcrome.co.uk/.../permission-viewer-tool.aspx ? It should help with debugging these issues. It would be nice to have something like this in the control panel built in though I agree.

Also what I would like to see is permissions templates that could be applied to groups so that they only need to be configured once and then can be applied to any group or application. It can be a time consuming task if there are lots of groups to update and this has to be done manually.

  • Good answer, Adam! Fran, does that help? I'm hearing your grief on this issue - from both of you. Not sure if there's a fix for this in 7.0, but I'll ask around and see what I can find out.

  • Jenn,

Yes that helps, thanks. As Adam said it would be nice if it was in the control panel!

    Thanks
