Consolidating communities residing on different databases?

Consolidating communities residing on different databases?

This question is answered

Hello,

My company is looking to implement Community 7 and I have some upgrade questions:

(1) Is it possible to consolidate multiple standalone CS2008.5 communities each with their own databases into single Community 7 instance?

(2) Similar to the first question, but we have a Community 5.5 site that has 30+ different groups.  Is it possible to migrate each on a case by case basis?  Ideally, I would love the entire Community 5.5 site to Community 7, but there are cost concerns.

  • Hi Andrew,

    1) To migrate data from other communities into a new community you should use REST to add the data from the 2008.5 communities into the 7.0 community.  It's not as easy as copying data from their databases into the new once since there will be Id conflicts between posts.  You can find the REST documentation for Telligent Community 7.0 here.  We have a tool to do this due to the how varied different communities can be but you could pretty simply create one yourself.

    2) For your 5.5 community, you could either upgrade that to 7.0 and then get rid of the groups you don't want anymore or you could do the same thing for this community as you did in #1 for those communities.

Let me know if you have any questions,

    Blake

  • Hi Blake,

Is there anyway you can share this tool with me?

  • Sorry, that should have read "we DON'T have a tool to do this...".
