In Telligent Community 6.0, themes for site, group, and blog are treated as separate, self-contained entities and can be saved as new versions (creating new themes) or separately selected as new factory defaults.
In this release, you can:
- Save an existing theme as a new theme. The entire theme, with its previously hard-coded default values, CSS, and supporting imagery, is now saved in a self-contained export file with a new name - creating a new theme. The new theme's options become its factory defaults.
The value in this feature is that you or others can reuse your theme and import it back into other sites. You can even make the new theme available or obtain a new one from the Telligent Marketplace (which is linked on the Manage Themes page for your convenience).
- Save the current theme as default. This option saves the current configuration of the currently selected theme for the current context. For example, you can save your customized version of Fiji as the blog theme default - meaning that if changes are made to the theme file, you can always revert to your version as the factory default.
You can have different factory defaults for site, group, or blog themes. The value in this is feature is being able to revert to your customized version without having to re-customize the out-of-the-box version if you revert.
Note than when you use Save as and Save current as default, you are not prompted for file save locations as you are with Import. The files are saved with alphanumeric names in the \filestorage\factorydefaultconfigurations\ folder.
Use "Save as" to save a theme as a new theme
When you create a new theme using save as, it saves the existing widgets of the theme as part of the configuration defaults. You cannot add widgets as part of the Save as process.
When you utilize the Save As option for a theme, you are taking the current configuration of all of the existing theme's pages, as well as the configuration defined in the Custom Styles tab, and making them the factory defaults for your new theme.
- Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Site Administration > Site Content > Manage Theme.
- Select the desired theme type (site, group, blog) you want to save and the theme name in the drop-down lists.
- Click Save as. The Save Theme As dialog appears.
- In the dialog box, give the theme a:
- Name
- Optional description
- Optional preview image.
- Click Save. The file is saved to your factory defaults.
Use "Save current theme as default" to save a new default
You can use this procedure to lock a site, group, or blog theme snapshot in place as the new factory default.
If you revert the theme after executing Save Current Theme as Default, it will be reverted back to the defaults last defined here.
- Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Site Administration > Site Content > Manage Theme.
- Select the desired theme type (site, group, blog) you want to save and the theme name in the drop-down lists.
- Click Save current as default. The Save Theme dialog appears.
You must select a group (or blog) from which to retrieve the default values for the save. If you are saving a site theme, you are not prompted for this information.
- Click Save. The file is saved to your factory defaults.
