Spam rules are separated by application type.
The spam blocker functionality allows you to specify how your site will handle spam with configurable spam rules that use point value criteria to delete or allow messages. Two general spam settings, Possible Spam and Definite Spam, have fields that allow you to list what values you want to set for these rule. (For example, Possible Spam content could be scored at 5 points while Definite Spam content could be scored at 10 points.) If material is judged to be possible spam, it is sent for moderation. If it is judged to be definite spam, it is automatically deleted after two days.
Each spam setting can include individual settings for specific rules that govern the spam score. For example in the Recent duplicate blog spam rule, you can specify:
- Points per duplicate found
- Number of recent comments to check for duplicates
Negative values are allowed. So you could, for instance, set the anonymous posters value as 1, but set the registered users value as -5. Messages that might automatically be judged as spam if originating outside your community would be given the benefit of a doubt if originating from within.
Set spam point values
- Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Site Administration > Content/Site Security > Manage Spam Blocker.

- Click any individual rule you want to set point values for and configure the rules.
-
Specify your spam blocking settings.
-
Click Reload Rules to load the rules to Telligent Community.
Modify rules
Individual spam setting rules are located in your Telligent Community /bin directory and include:
- Known spam terms
- User account age
- User account status
- User creation IP frequency
- Akismet (forums; media gallery; messages; blog; wiki)
- Forbidden word (media gallery; blog)
- Links in comments (media gallery; blog; wiki)
- IP address frequency (media gallery; blog; forum)
- Status message duplicates
- Status message flood
- Blog comment length
- Emails in blog comments
- Recent duplicate blog spam rule
- Regex blog
-
For the rule you want to change, click Configure. Telligent Community displays a dialog window in which you can specify individual point properties.
-
The rule will display a dialog box. For example, the Forbidden Word Blog rule displays the following dialog box.

-
Specify the points you want to assign for each word found in the forbidden word list. If you enable this rule, Telligent Community calculates the total points and uses them the post content score total to determine whether or not the post should be considered spam.
-
You should carefully note the rule name because it will usually indicate the application to which it applies. For example, the Forbidden Word Blog Spam rule applies only to blogs.
- Click Save to apply the settings.
Notes:
- Use the Known Spam Terms rule to apply a rule to the content for all applications on the Web site.
- Spam rules are applied differently to content, depending upon the application type.
