At times, you may need to view the site from the perspective of a particular user to troubleshoot a problem he/she is having or to verify his/her user experience is as it should be.

Impersonation only works with auth type = Forms. It does not work with Windows Authentication or Single Sign On.

To impersonate a user:

  1. Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > Members and Roles > Manage Users.
  2. Search for the user.
  3. Click Edit next to the user you want to impersonate.
  4. Click Impersonate User.

You are immediately taken to the site, logged in as that user, and can navigate throughout the site as that user. (You can tell which user you are impersonating because the user name will appear with your own user name in parentheses. You will also see the  "Stop impersonating" link.)

We recommend that you do not make any changes to his/her account or add/remove/change community content while impersonating him/her.
  5. To exit impersonation mode, click Stop impersonating. You are returned to the Dashboard of your own account (and the impersonated user's ID disappears from the menu bar).

Only users with the Site - Impersonate Users permission are allowed to impersonate.
