This is the Enterprise theme view of the widget.

Description

Purpose

Navigation - Custom allows you to create navigation buttons directly to applications, URLs, or content pages on the navigation bar of a page.

Limitations

This widget requires search to be installed in order to work. Tabs must be configured, below, in order to display anything on the navigation bar.

Where it works

This widget can be used on just about any page in the site.

Configuration

Enable the widget

  1. Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Site Administration > Widget Studio > Enable/Disable widgets.
  2. If it is not already present in Allowed widgets, move the widget from the Not Allowed Widgets column to the Allowed Widgets column.

Place and configure the widget

  1. Click Edit Page, then click Edit Header.
  2. Select and place the Navigation - Custom widget.
  3. Click Configure on the widget menu bar. The configuration dialog appears. Note that you can nest navigational items to make pop-up menus by clicking a navigation item in the list and then clicking Add, such as shown below.



    You can drag and drop items in this dialog box and make a menu item a sub- or same-level option, such as shown below.

Add a navigation item

  1. You can change the following options:
    • Change this widget's title, such as from "Navigation - Custom" to "Your applications," by clicking Change and entering the new name.
    • Change the Custom Navigation tabs:
      1. Click Add. The Add navigation item dialog appears.

      2. Select a type of link from the Link type drop-down list.
        Choices include:
        • Content page - A specific page's title (ex. "blank," not page name).
        • Custom URL - Enter the full URL, including http://.
        • Group blog(s) - The group where one or more blogs reside.
        • Group forum(s) - The group where one or more forums reside.
        • Group media gallery/galleries - The group where one or more media galleries reside.
        • Group members - Members of the group.
        • Group mentions - Mentions that refer to the group.
        • Group tags - Tags used within the group.
        • Group wiki(s) - The group where one or more wikis reside.
        • Single blog - A specific blog's title including spaces (ex. "Blog," not blog page name).
        • Single forum - A specific forum's title including spaces (not forum page name).
        • Single media gallery - A specific media gallery's title including spaces (not media gallery page name).
        • Single wiki - A specific wiki's title including spaces.

      3. Start typing the name of the content page, group, or application item for the navigation link. (Note: This text box is case-sensitive.) The search will locate the correct item. See the category you've chosen above in the Link type drop-down for hints on filling in this field.
      4. Enter a label to appear on the navigation bar.
      5. Click Save to exit the Add navigation item dialog.
  2. Click Save in the Configure Navigation - Custom dialog.
  3. If you wish to add any other navigation items, add each one individually and save.
  4. Click Save Header.
  5. Click Save Page.

Edit a navigation item

  1. In the Configure Navigation - Custom dialog, select the item you want to edit.
  2. Click Edit. The Edit navigation item dialog appears.



  3. Select the item you want to change and make your edits. In the above screen capture, the label was changed.
  4. Click Save to exit the Edit navigation item dialog.
  5. Click Save in the Configure Navigation - Custom dialog.
  6. Click Save Header.
  7. Click Save Page.

Delete a navigation item

  1. In the Configure Navigation - Custom dialog, select the item you want to edit.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. Click OK in the confirmation dialog.
  4. Click Save in the Configure Navigation - Custom dialog.
  5. Click Save Header.
  6. Click Save Page.
