Optimizing the viewing experience
The Telligent Evolution Video Transcoder extension optimizes video for your community by automatically transcoding videos to take advantage of the latest HTML5 capabilities available from the most popular browsers (including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Mozilla Firefox) without requiring any extra plugins. Older browsers without HTML5 support also benefit by displaying the transcoded videos via Flash.
Automatic transcoding
As videos are uploaded and viewed within the community in any format, they are automatically transcoded into the widely-supported HTML5 formats H.264 and WebM. Non-HTML5 browsers play the the H.264 version via Flash.
Browser version compatibility
HTML5-compatible browsers automatically play either the H.264 or WebM format without requiring plugins. Non-HTML5 browsers play the H.264 version via Flash. For a current list of the formats supported by most browsers, see this link.
Configurable options
As an administrator, you have configuration options that include:
- Bitrate
- Maximum height and width
- Screenshot preview second when it is taken
