If you upgrade your Telligent Community 5.0 or 5.5 site to release 7.0 or move your site to a new server and get the following message:
This site has exceeded the licensed number of servers. You can access the site by opening it up directly on the server that is running the site. You can also manage your license by [clicking here]
this is the result of Telligent Community's license checking.
Telligent Community 7.0 verifies the number of servers you have licensed for the site against the number of servers registered as accessing your database. Accordingly, needing to verify this information is the first step you perform in the upgrade process.
A mismatch between the numbers of servers does not cause an exception or error page; it only triggers this message and gives you the opportunity to clear up the problem.
Telligent Community 7.0 doesn't access the server license information from Telligent.com or Telligent corporate, but from your own site.
If you get the exceeded licensed number of servers error in a Web farm environment, you'll have to understand which servers should and should not be running on the Telligent Community site by contacting the IT department that manages your servers. Then, open Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Site Administration > Manage Licenses and ensure there aren't any old servers that could be decommissioned.
To decommission (unregister) a server:
- Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Site Administration > Manage Licenses. The number of servers and a list of the registered server names are shown on the page.

- Click Unregister beside the server you wish to decommission.
