Does any part of Telligent Evolution (including the Telligent Community and Telligent Enterprise applications) make use of cookies or similar techniques for storing information on the client's browser?

Yes. Telligent Evolution (and Telligent Analytics, if in use) store cookies on the client's browser.

What are the cookies, what are they used for, and what information is stored in them?

Forum Post: Not able to fetch all user from telligent community 3.1

I having trying to fetch all user from Telligent 3.1 using REST API call. But able to fetch only 8 user but there are 21 users are registered user in Telligent community.

Please let me know any finding or solution.

I am using Telligent Enterprise 3.1. I have a requirement to fetch user list belong to a Role. I did not find any developer REST based API to retrieve the user list based on the role.

The following list details bugs that were fixed or will be fixed in chronological hotfixes. The hotfixes are cumulative, meaning that the more recent hotfix will contain fixes incorporated in previous hotfixes. Please contact Telligent Support to request any hotfix shown here, ask questions about specific bug fixes or get additional help in applying the hotfixes to your environment.

18311 - The time zone selected during registration is now inaccurate during Daylight Savings Time.
18011 - Blog owners can no longer see blog posts if the administrator has revoked viewing permissions.
18496 - The anonymous user's DateTime now respects his time zone instead of displaying the server time zone.
18563 - GUIDs in RSS feeds have been updated to be unique.
18602 - When you configure custom profile fields in a specific order for user registration, they now show in the order specified in this configuration.
18618 - The search reindexing job (cs_Search_ReindexAll) timeout is now 30 minutes.
19210 - When upgrading to 6.x and upgrading attachments, announcements with attachments are now successfully moved.
19212 - User-specific RSS freeds are now visible only to the appropriate accessing user since they are no longer cached without a unique UserID.
19247 - Links to the first post in a forum thread now correctly show the forum thread rather than automatically redirecting the viewer to the home page.
19261 - The Control Panel My Groups search is now able to provide multi-language search functionality.
10188 - Blog RSS feeds no longer generate an error (AppType on AggBug.aspx).
19273 - The forum Unread tab now displays posts with responses as new instead of read.
16802 - A "server is not responding" error message (due to pending Ajax requests) is no longer shown when you try to navigate to a top-level group with subgroups.
18023 - When getting a content's rating, the ratings are now correctly returned instead of capturing a rate. (List<Rating> ForumSqlDataProvider.GetThreadRatings(int) now calls the right stored procedure).
18297 - When you create tags for a blog post from the Manage Blogs > Tags tab, the tags are now shown in alphabetical order instead of the order of tag ID.
18684 - White space spam words have been removed from the known spam terms list.
17593 - The DateTime format now renders the date in the user's language.

17 April, 2012: build 6.1.1.24376 and 3.1.1.24376

15995 - A forum thread reply no longer shows an attachment from the reply of a different thread when the forum thread and reply IDs are the same.
16204 - Media gallery posts with videos now scale to the correct size within the theme's constraints or to the dimensions specified to the viewer.
16521 - When customers exceed the number of registered servers in their license, they are now given a grace period of 14 days before being shut down.
16569 - Posts made between one and two years ago are now correctly labeled as "more than one year ago."
16600 - In the Membership List widget, the group member type is no longer improperly localized.
16672 - When upgrading from 5.6 to 6.0, mirrored feed blogs are now properly handled, linking back to the original source of the blog post.
16744 - When the user name is an email address, the user hover-over now works correctly.
16748 - Forum attachments are now linked correctly, including within Q&A forums.

We recommend using Windows Authentication if you are configuring Telligent Enterprise within an internal environment where members of the community are authenticated against Active Directory (also called Windows security groups). Your members can then access Telligent Enterprise without explicitly creating a registered account and logging in.

By default, Telligent Enterprise only allows the most common characters to be used in a user name. Usernames are limited to:

Alphanumeric characters (A-z, 0-9)
Underscores (_)
Hyphens (-)
Periods (.)
At signs (@)
Spaces

If the user names in your Active Directory include characters other than these, you must explicitly configure Telligent Enterprise to allow nonstandard characters in user names

Configure Telligent Enterprise for Windows Authentication

The Windows SSO Module is configured through the communityserver.config file. As an alternative to directly editing this file (because applying a future upgrade to Telligent Enterprise will wipe out our changes,) we can make our changes through an external communityserver_override.config file. (N.B. Out of the box, Telligent Enterprise does not include a communityserver_override.config file. You need to create this yourself. For more details on how to create this file, read the documentation on override files.)

Enable the Windows Authentication Module:
1. Set the extensionModules enabled attribute to true ( <extensionModules enabled="true">) in the communityserver.config file in your Web folder.
2. Enable the Windows Authentication module. In the communityserver_override file, set extensionModulesto true:

  NOTE: The default user-name regex pattern is set to deny user-names with a backslash (i.e. DOMAIN\UserNameNAME) so modify the user name RegEx pattern to ^[a-zA-Z0-9\\_\- @\.]+$
  Essentially allowing the backslash in the user name. See Registration Experience for more details.

Change the Authentication Mode to Windows
Open up your web.configfile, find the line which looks like:

Configure IIS

Internet Information Services (IIS), by default, allows anonymous users to access your community without being required to log in. Disable anonymous authentication within IIS on every Web server in your environment, preventing users who aren't already logged into the network from being recognized. You also need to configure IIS to accept Windows credentials:
- In IIS6:
  1. Open Internet Information Service (IIS) Manager.
  2. Browse to your Telligent Enterprise Web site in the left pane.
  3. Right-click the Web site and select properties.
  4. Select the Directory Security tab, and under Authentication and access control click Edit.
  5. Deselect the Enable anonymous access check box and select the Integrated Windows Authentication check box.
- In IIS7:
  1. Open IIS Manager.
  2. Browse to your Telligent Enterprise Web site in the left pane.
  3. In the IIS section of the right pane, double-click Authentication. (If you don't see this, ensure you're in Features View rather than Content View.)
  4. Disable all authentication types except Windows Authentication, leaving Windows Authentication as the only enabled authentication type.
Set the permissions on the \Web directory in each Web server for all groups and users who will accessing your community:

Remove Full Control rights.
Grant Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, and Write permissions.

Introduction

Spam can range from an irritation to threat when it's introduced into your community. Telligent Evolution makes tools available to help you manage and prevent spam in your community and suggests that you create a business practice to deal with spam.

Spam tools

While we make diligent effort to catch or prevent spam from the vantage point of our platform, Telligent cannot be held responsible for issues that may occur on networks due to spam-induced or related problems; responsibility for community health and maintenance ultimately rests with your organization's community managers and support team.

Telligent Evolution contains several out-of-the-box tools for dealing with spam. These tools include:

Tool	Description
Akismet	Akismet should be one of your first lines of defense against spam. Akismet is built around blocking spam, and this is an expert tool for identifying spam.
Spam rules	Out-of-the-box spam rules or custom rules yield scores that you can use to trigger behavior (such as deletion). Rules include known terms, application rules, user rules, regex rules, and Akismet activity.
IP address blocker	If you are able to target the originating IP address of a spammer, you can block this address in Telligent Evolution.
User account moderation	Users' posts can default to being moderated (such as by a group moderator) prior to their publishing any content.

Customized Telligent Evolution rules

You can customize our tools' spam rules that initiate action. For example, you might:

Add or remove words from the forbidden words list
Set a specific age a user account has to be in order to get reduced spam score counts
Set custom point levels for spam
Block specific IP addresses where you know spam is originating, or block users
Whitelist certain domains or IPs
Set the minimum length for a comment
Set rules for emails
Set actions for duplicate posts/comments
Customize email templates for spam emails
Check for certain regex expressions
Create custom rules

The spam business process

You should create a business process for spam that incorporates your organization's spam practices and responsibilities. The process should at a minimum include the following decisions and action plans:

Decision/Action plan	Explanation
How to monitor for spam	The execution methods might include watching the spam comments job or the spam post table for additions.
How to identify spam	You might take user reports about forum posts/comments, blog posts/comments, wiki posts/comments. You might also monitor a user account below a certain aging, or use other spam rules to categorically decide what constitutes spam.
What to do with spam	Once you determine what content is spam, you could decide to remove it or block it by blocking an originating IP or user account.
Who's going to execute the actions	You need to have assigned roles for spam protection. One of these roles might be a blog or forum/media gallery moderator, who reviews content and allows it or disallows it. You might have other roles who would participate in this process.
Frequency of execution	You need to decide how frequently you're going to check efficacy of spam practices and how often comments will be moderated.
Efficacy evaluation	Create goal or average monitoring numbers to know when spam is peaking or decreasing, and measure the efficacy of your tools.

The Telligent Video Transcoding module optimizes the video viewing experience for your community audience by taking advantage of the HTML5 capabilities of the most popular browsers, including Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome 15, Apple Safari, and Mozilla Firefox 4. As videos are uploaded into the community in any format, they are automatically transcoded into an HTML5-compatible format, but also have a Flash-compatible version for older browsers. While the video is being transcoded, your audience can still view the videos in their original format.

As an administrator, you have configuration options that include bitrate, maximum height and width, aspect ratios and time at which a snapshot is taken to show as a preview where the video is shown in lists of available videos.

We have provided a full installation and configuration guide to ensure you can successfully implement the Video Transcoding module within your community. The Video Transcoding module is available for download in the Telligent Marketplace.

The HTML5 Video Transcoding module enables videos of any format to be uploaded to Telligent Enterprise and to be made playable directly within the browser without using plugins. The module automatically converts uploaded videos to HTML5 formats supporting all modern browsers with a Flash-based fallback for older browsers and enables previewing uploaded videos via a screenshot automatically taken from the source.

Note that externally hosted videos are not encoded.

Always back up your web files, database, and filestorage before installing new components

Installation

Prep: Unblock the zip package by right clicking it and going to Properties. If there is an unblock button at the bottom of the Properties window, click it to unblock the zip. If not, the zip is already unblocked.

Install the SQL files

Navigate to the SqlScripts folder in the installation package.
Execute the SQL file located in this folder against the database where you want Video Transcoding to log its video conversions. This is traditionally the same database as your Telligent Enterprise site.

Install the Web files

In the installation package, locate the Web folder.
Copy the contents of the Webfolder into your Telligent Enterprise site, merging existing folders.
1. For example, if your website is located at c:/Web, it would end up containing c:/Web/vt and c:/Web/bin/Telligent.Evolution.VideoTranscoding.dll.

Install the Job Scheduler files

Stop the Job Scheduler service.
In the installation package, locate the Tasks folder.
Copy the contents of the Tasksfolder to the root of your Job Scheduler installation.
1. For example, if your Job Scheduler root was c:/Tasks, it would end up containing c:/Tasks/ffmpeg and c:/Tasks/Telligent.Evolution.VideoTranscoding.dll.

Modify the Web configuration files

In your Telligent Enterprise site, locate a file named communityserver_override.config and edit it in any text editor.

Configuration

Log into your Telligent Enterprise site as an administrator and navigate to Control Panel > System Administration > Site Administration > Manage Plugins. Locate the Video Transcoding plugin, HTML5 Video Transcoding.

Click Configure and set the properties on all three tabs according to the following table.

Option	Description
Maximum width	The maximum width (in pixels) at which the video will be transcoded from its source. If the source video is wider, it will be scaled down retaining its original aspect ratio. If the source video is narrower, it will not be up-scaled. This does not influence the playback size, which is still governed by the theme. default: 1024
Maxiumum height	The maximum height (in pixels) at which the video will be transcoded from its source. If the source video is taller, it will be scaled down retaining its original aspect ratio. If the source video is shorter, it will not be up-scaled. This does not influence the playback size, which is still governed by the theme. default: 768
Video bitrate	The maximum video bitrate (in kbps) at which the source video will be transcoded. default: 768
Audio bitrate	The maximum audio bitrate (for both channels combined, in kbps) at which the source video's audio will be transcoded. default: 128
Stereo	Determines whether the transcoded video will retain both audio channels (if it has two) or just one. default: checked
Poster second	The point in the video's playback (at that second) where it takes a screenshot for displaying as the video's preview and thumbnail. default: 5
Show Basic Viewer while Queued	When selected, videos that have been uploaded and scheduled to transcode but have not yet begun to transcode will render via the classic, default, video file viewer included with Evolution. This is useful when a large backlog of videos is expected. default: false
Encoding timeout	The timeout (in seconds) at which the video transcoder should quit if it has not completed transcoding a given video. default: 1800
Progress handler	If the installation instructions were followed correctly, this should not need to be changed from its default. It defines the path to the /vt/ directory copied to the /Web during installation in case this differs from the default. default: ~/vt/transcodingprogress.ashx

Save the configuration.
Select the check box next to the Video Transcoding plugin to enable it, then click Save at the bottom of the plugin page.
You can now start your Telligent Job Scheduler service.

Creating a link to a new wiki page

When the wiki engine finds double-bracketed text in the body of a post, it converts the text into a link. For example, This is a Test in double brackets, as shown below,

renders as 'This is a TEST' and becomes an active link when you save and close the editor.

When you click the link, Telligent Enterprise opens the add a page editor so you can create the new page.

The syntax for creating a link to an existing page is similar to that used for creating a link to a new page except the double-bracketed syntax would look like this: [<page name>|<link text>]. For example, if you want to create a link to an existing page called Platform Collaboration platform, you would use the following statement:

Wiki Page: Customize profile fields

Profile fields are elements included on user profiles to either simply display information about the user (read-only); make a field visible only to admins (such as an IM handle), or provide a way for the user to specify unique information about him/herself. You can also include these fields on the registration form to capture the information at the moment someone joins your community rather than waiting for them to update his or her profile.

You must add a profile field to a field group in order for it to be configured in the user profile field widget and added to the the user profile page. If you do not add the field to a field group, it will not be visible to users or able to store any data, and will be hidden from users. If you remove a field from an established group, such as removing an AOL IM field from the Contact field group, the AOL IM field will not be part of the Contact field group and thus not be available for use in the user profile.

If a user has not yet specified information for a profile field, the field is not visible on his/her profile. But when editing the profile, the user is able to add content to each available profile field. You can also decide, for each profile field, whether other community members should be able to search for similar members via that profile field by selecting Yes for search indexing question.

The only fields indexed by search are plain text fields such as those entered in the profile. The default searchable fields include Birthday, Department, Education, Gender, Hobbies, Language, Occupation, and Title. HTML, URL, or check box fields are not indexed by Telligent Enterprise.

To support commas for searchable custom profile fields, change the field's data type to comma-separated list in User Profile Configuration.

By default, we include a set of profile fields grouped together in three groups:

About: location, birthday, gender, language
Contact: public email, blog, gallery, Web site, Facebook, AOL IM, Yahoo IM, Google IM, Windows Live IM
Interests: occupation, hobbies, education

As an administrator you can modify these defaults, add additional fields to these existing groups, or create new groups to add to or replace these.

Profile fields

You can:

Add a custom profile field
Change an existing profile field
Delete a profile field
Add a custom profile field to the user profile

Add a custom profile field

Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > User Profile Configuration > Fields.
Click Create New Field at the bottom of the list of existing profile fields. The Add User Profile Data Field dialog box appears.
In the dialog window, specify:
1. A unique Name used by the internal system to uniquely identify each profile field
2. The Label shown externally when a profile field widget is shown on a user's profile
3. In Searchable, whether the content of the profile field should be indexed by search to ensure it shows in search results
4. Type of Input field as it is displayed on a user's profile (e.g., comma-separated list, URL, etc.)
Click Save. The new profile field is displayed in the list of all profile fields shown in Step 1.

You must include the profile field in a profile field group before it is will become visible for editing or viewing on a user's profile.

Change an existing profile field

Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > User Profile Configuration > Fields.
Click Edit next to the profile field you want to change.

The edit dialog box appears.
In the dialog window, specify:
- Name - The name of the field.
- Label - How the field is labeled in the Profile page.
- Searchable - Whether or not the field is searchable.
- Type of Input - including the following options:
  - Date
  - Number
  - HTML
  - Multi-select
  - Plain text
  - Single-Select
  - URL
Click Save. The profile field list is updated to display the changes you made. It may take up to 15 minutes for the changes to reflect throughout the community.

Delete a profile field

Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > User Profile Configuration > Fields.
Click Delete next to the profile field you want to delete.
Confirm the deletion and the list now no longer includes this profile field.

Add a custom profile field to a user profile

For this procedure to work, you have to have the User - Banner widget on your home page.

For a custom profile field to be visible, it must be included in a profile group. An existing profile field will already be part of a group (for example, the existing AOL IM name is part of the About group). A new field is not, by default, a member of any group and it needs to be added - to either an existing group or a custom group. The process would be the same for adding to either kind of group.

Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > User Profile Configuration > Field Groups.
Click Edit for the profile field where you want to add the new field. (In this example, we're using the About profile field group.) The Add/Edit User Profile Field Data dialog box appears.
Drag the custom field from Available

to Current.
Click Save.

Now, when you or your user edits a user profile, this field will appear in the group where you placed it. (To edit a profile, see this article.)
Go to your site (by clicking Go to site in the upper-right corner).
Click your user profile, in this case Admin.
Click Edit Profile in the upper-right corner of the user banner widget.
Scroll down. You should now see your additional field in the About area (or whichever area you added it to).

Profile field groups

You can:

Add a custom profile field group
Edit an existing profile field group
Delete a profile field group

Add a custom profile field group

Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > User Profile Configuration > Field Groups.
Click Create New Field Group at the bottom of the list of existing profile field groups. The Add/Edit User Profile Data Panel dialog window appears.
In the dialog window:
1. Specify a unique Name of the profile field group which will be shown on the profile field widget for selection of which profile field group to include. You cannot edit this name once it is created.
2. Select one or more profile fields from the Available Fields list and drag and drop them in the Current Panel Fields list. Any fields in the Current Panel Fields list are included in the group in the order they appear in the Current Panel Fields list.
3. You can remove profile fields from the group by dragging and dropping any fields from Current Panel Fields to Available Fields.
Click Save. The new profile field group is displayed in the list of all profile field groups. You must include the profile field group in a profile field widget on a page (typically the user profile page) before it is visible for editing/viewing.

Change an existing profile field group

Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > User Profile Configuration > Field Groups.
In the dialog window, click Edit next to the profile field group you want to change.
Click Save.

Use caution when deleting profile fields or profile field groups. If you remove a profile field, it is automatically removed from the profile field group and the profile field widget (if enabled). We do, however, save any user-entered values for that profile field so that if you create a profile field with the same name and input type, that information will display for the user again (as long as you've recreated the profile field widget). If you remove a profile field group that is included in a profile field widget, the profile widget is automatically removed from its page.

Delete a profile field group

Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > System Administration > Membership Administration > User Profile Configuration > Fields Groups.
Click Delete next to the profile field you want to delete.
Confirm the deletion and the list now no longer includes this profile field group. Any profile field widgets that include this profile field group are reset to nothing so that this information no longer shows.

*32-bit Solr technically can be used for a smaller-sized community, assuming the size of the search index is less than 2 GB. That being said, there are two reasons for the 64-bit recommendation: (1) When you start dealing with a medium to large community, the search index will grow. If the index gets too large, it will push the limits of the maximum memory size for an application on a 32-bit system. (2) Windows 2003 is slowly being phased out. Windows 2008 R2 does not have a 32-bit version.

The widget started supporting paging.
Bad logic from script error was corrected.
Group owners/administrators became able to use the More... link to add members or send invitations to potential group members.

In Telligent Enterprise 2.5, this and all other browse or list widgets became available to group owners.

Purpose

Displays the list of top group members. The list is based on group members who have published the most posts for all the groups in the site.

Group owners/administrators can use the More... link visible in the not filtered/not paged view to switch to the filtered/paged view and add members or send invitations to potential group members.

This widget works on group-specific pages such as home pages, application pages, or post pages.

If it is not already in Allowed widgets, move the widget from the Not Allowed widgets column to the Allowed widgets column.

Place and configure the widget

Click Edit Page, then select and place the Group - Membership List widget.
Click Configure on the widget menu bar. The configuration dialog appears.

You can edit the following options:
- Widget title - If you want to change the name of this widget, such as from "Group - Membership List" to "Group Members," enter the new title in the Widget Title field and click Change.
- View type:
  - Filtered/paged list - A list of all users filtered by username, activity, recency, membership type, or pending status - and paged.
  - Top members/not paged list - A list of only the top members with no paging. The sort order of "Top Members" is by #of forum posts in the entire community who are members of the group the widget lives in. The date shown is the user's last login date.
Click Save to exit the configuration dialog.
Click Save Page.

Wiki Page: Create an in-page table of contents (TOC)

Besides creating a table of contents for an entire wiki, you can create a table of contents that pulls only from the headers located on one page (called an in-page table of contents). This capability is added through an add-on called the In-page TOC - available in the Telligent Marketplace.

The in-page TOC widget displays contents of headers down to < H4 >.

To utilize the in-page TOC, type [ toc ] on a line by itself inside the document.

Is there a place in Analytics or elsewhere, where I can find out who is subscribed? I can see a number inside the individual portals, but I can't find who these individuals are.
