When you create a forum thread, you may see the Compose page with options for Discussion and Question. The options you see depend upon the default options the forum was configured with (i.e., discussion, question and answer, or both).

This means the forum is configured to give you the option of creating a thread in one or both of the two format options we support:

  • Discussion - The forum format is a traditional discussion format in which users see a Reply button when they are able to comment on the forum.
  • Question- The forum post is presented as a question to which users can respond. The Question and Answer functionality is very useful because it provides a means of tracking whether or not your question has been answered.

With the Question format, users can still reply in the normal fashion by clicking Reply; however, they can also suggest an answer to the question by clicking This is a suggested answer.

You will know the status of the most recent thread by the buttons that are available and by the icon in the forum thread list. In the following example, you can see the user has two options in response to the most recent thread: Yes and No. Having these options indicates that a user has suggested an answer in response to the thread.

You can see the thread status from the forum activity list, which is the best way to determine the current status of the thread. The following example shows each type of thread in the forum list. The first thread is a question that has a suggested answer but hasn't been verified yet. The second thread is a discussion and has no icon. The third thread is a question with a verified answer. The final thread is a question without a verified or suggested answer.

When a user verifies an answer, the post is marked as the verified answer.

If you or another user determines, later, that a thread marked having a verified answer is actually incorrect or incomplete, you can change the thread status by clicking Reject Answer once again.
