Telligent Enterprise 4.0 lets you use the #hashtag feature to broaden discussions.

In Telligent Enterprise 4.0, you can add #hashtags to the following content:
- Comments
- Forum threads
- Forum replies
- Blog posts
- Gallery posts
- Wiki pages
- Status messages
- Applications
- Groups
- Users
How #hashtags work
When you enter a #hashtag into the body of a post, reply, comment, or status message and begin typing the term, Telligent Enterprise searches for and suggests similar tags. For example if you type "#sum" into a post, Telligent Enterprise looks for any other tags on the site that contain "sum," and offers a drop-down list of tag(s) for you to choose from.
The suggested tags don't have to be previously used in order to be suggested. For example if "#sum" has not been used in any previous tag, Telligent Enterprise will offer to tag the term as you type it ("#sum," "#summ," #summe," then "#summer").
If you enter a #hashtag before a term, you must select the tag from the list in order for it to be indexed on that #hashtag. If you choose not to select a tag from the list, the #hashtagged term is treated like any other term in search results.
Entering a #hashtag in the search field will return only tagged terms. Entering the term without the #hashtag will result in finding both #hashtagged and untagged content.
Special characters can't be used in hashtags.
Finding #hashtagged discussions
When you click on a #hashtag in content, you see a filtered, contextual list of content containing that tag. (If the term is used on your site without a #hashtag, it's not added to the list of #hashtagged content.)
For example if the tag "#thought" is used across several applications in a group (for example, Sample group blog, forum, and wiki) and you click the tag "#thought" in an application (such as in a blog post), Telligent Enterprise displays any other posts in the same application (such as blog) that contain the #hashtag.
