New in Telligent Evolution 5.5: Browse widgets, list widgets,  and other widgets all have usability improvements.

The following table lists the blog widgets. We include a description of the purpose of the widget, any limitations and any additional configuration option beyond the ability to set a custom title shown in the header of the widget (if configured to display). To change the configuration options, you simply click on the customize button  on the widget when in Customize or Edit Mode.

We show screenshots from the Fiji theme - the look and feel of the widgets will vary depending upon the theme in which you're viewing them.

Purpose: Displays the blog About page.

Limitations: You must enable the Publish the "About You" page property (Control Panel Dashboard > My Blogs > [blog name] > Configure > Blog Setup > About, or Edit blog settings and click About) and enter the About information on the About page in the  Blogs Management section of the Control Panel. 

Blog - Add Comment Form

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, this widget was renamed. It used to be called Blog - Post Feedback Form.

Purpose: Displays a comment form for users to comment on a blog post.

Limitations: The user's role must allow the user to comment on posts and the Can readers comment property must be enabled on the blog's Feedback page.

Additional configuration options:

  • Minimum number of comments required to display - Specifies the minimum number of comments users must publish before they are displayed.
Blog - Banner

Purpose: Displays the blog name and an RSS syndication link to the blog.

Blog - Breadcrumbs

Purpose: Displays blogs breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs are normally at the top of the page and provide users a visual display of their location within the Web site. Each item in the breadcrumb is a link to that page.

Blog - Browse Blogs

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, search results became displayed in last post search order; search field shows, regardless of number of results returned; configuration options were clarified; height was given minimum and maximum values; search became able to find special characters; "items to show before scrolling" was changed to "Page size;" it became impossible to have a page size below 1; and issues with search were addressed.

In Telligent Evolution 5.5, this widget stopped being displayed if the widget returns three or fewer results (by default); this and all other browse or list widgets became allowed for group owners; all browse widgets began to search against application names as well as group names, and the sort column you selected was highlighted.

Purpose: Displays a browse control that lists all the blogs on the Web site. You can display blogs by blog name, post title, and groups. You can navigate to the blog by clicking on the blog title.

Additional configuration options:

  • Title - If checked, the blog title displays in the list. If Show Data from Groups and All Subgroups is not checked, the list displays only blogs at the site root.
  • Group - If checked, the parent group is listed.
  • Posts - If checked, the number of posts made to the blog is listed.
  • Last Post - If checked, the date of the most recent post for each blog is noted.
  • Show Data from Groups and All Subgroups - If checked, displays blogs from the site root, groups, and subgroups.
  • Default Sort Order- Applies a sorting filter.
    • Application Name - Sorts the blogs in alphabetical order.
    • Posts - Sorts the blogs by the greatest number of posts, from most to least.
    • Last Post - Sorts the blogs by most recent posts, from the blog with the most recent to the oldest.
  • Include Current Group's Name in Title - The parent group is included in the title.
  • Include Search Box - Includes word-wheel search capability for blogs.
Blog - Comment List

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, when RSS for comments was turned on, it was only rendered for the specific blog post.

In Telligent Evolution 5.5, the widget got more paging options; this and all other browse or list widgets became allowed for group owners.

Purpose: Displays user feedback to blog posts.  

Additional configuration options:

  • RSS for Comments - If checked, allows users to add an RSS feed for the blog comments.
Blog - Contact Author

 In Telligent Evolution 5.5, the contact form began being hidden and displaying a success message when the form was successfully submitted.

Purpose: Displays the contact form that is sent to blog owners.

Limitations: The Enable the Contact me form property on the blog Email page must be enabled for you to use the Contact widget.

Blog - Create Blog

 In Telligent Evolution 5.5, the Blog Author field began being automatically set to the current user, and some options were renamed to make them easier to understand.

Purpose: Displays a create widget form in which you can add a blog to your Web site.

Limitations: This widget is visible only to users who have the create blog privilege.

Blog - Edit Article

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, this widget was renamed Edit Article.

 This widget allows you to edit a blog article.
Blog - Email Author

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, this widget was renamed. It was formerly known as Blog - Contact Author.

To enable this widget, edit the blog's settings, enable the Email Blog Author option, and enter an email address.

Blog - Link List

 In Telligent Evolution 5.5, Telligent Evolution began prompting the blog author if the widget was added but no links existed; this and all other browse or link widgets became allowed for group owners.

Purpose: Displays blogrolls on the blog page.

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, the Send to Friend link was changed to Share this, and the Email author option bean being displayed.

In Telligent Evolution 5.5, the Contact link was renamed Contact Blog Author; the Get Atom Feed option was added; the Send to Friend option was added; an email subscription became available in Anonymous mode, and formatting was updated.

Purpose: Displays the list of blog functionalities available to the user. The options available to individual users will vary depending upon the user's permissions and which options are manually enabled. The default title for this widget is Options. You can also use the drag-and-drop functionality to manually re-order the items in the list.

Additional configuration  options:

  • Home - Opens the blog home page.
  • Subscribe via RSS - User can subscribe to the blog via an RSS feed. The subscription is for all blogs in the current group.
  • My Blog Dashboard - Open to your list of blogs in the Manage My Blogs section of the Control Panel. The user must be a blog owner or an administrator for this option to be available.
  • About - Opens to the blog About page, if one has been created.
  • Contact - Opens the contact form so users can contact the blog author.
  • Favorite this blog - Adds the blog to the user's favorite places list.
  • Edit this post - Opens the editing functionality. The user must have editing privileges.
  • Write a blog post - Opens the new blog post functionality in the Manage My Blogs section of the Control Panel. The user must be the blog owner or have administrative privileges.
  • New post by email - User can create blog posts via email. The blog by email functionality must be enabled and the user must have create post privileges.
  • RSS for Posts - User can subscribe to the blog via an RSS feed.
  • Atom - User can subscribe to the blog via Atom.
  • RSS for Comments - User can be notified when comments are published to the post.
  • Email Subscription for Blog - User can receive notification emails when new posts are published to the blog.
  • Email subscription for Post - User can receive email notifications if the post is edited or deleted.
  • Blog Administration - Opens the blog administration section of the Control Panel. The user must have blog administration privileges.
  • Control Panel - Opens the Control Panel. The user must have administration privileges.
  • Create Blog - Opens the Blog Administration section of the Control Panel where the user can create a new blog for the group. The user must have create blog privileges.

 In Telligent Evolution 5.5, this and all other browse or list widgets became allowed for group owners.

Purpose: Displays the list of blogs on the Web site, including the author, blog name, the group to which it belongs, the most recent post on the blog, and a favorite link.

Blog - Monthly Archive List

 In Telligent Evolution 5.5, this and all other browse or link widgets became allowed for group owners.

Purpose: Displays a list of months with the number of archived blogs for each month. You can click on the month to display the list of archived blogs for that month in the central space of the Web page.

 In Telligent Evolution 5.5, this widget was updated so that it visually resembles other similar widgets.

Displays blog-related news on the blog page. The news item displays on every page of the blog.

Limitations: You must enter text for the News widget in the News Flash property on the blog's Title & Description page.

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, this widget was renamed Blog - Add Comment Form.

 In Telligent Evolution 5.6, the "By" field stopped being displayed if author wasn't displayed; tab filter controls from Evolution2 theme were added to Fiji; words break properly and don't overflow, and height was given minimum and maximum values.

In Telligent Evolution 5.5, you became able to use this widget to create a feed "mashup;" the redundant Read more... link was removed from each post ID; the widget's styling was updated to match that of the Featured Content widget; it gained an option for controlling the number of posts listed per page; it now displays date/author lines; the group selection (i.e., group from where you want to pull posts) became based on a search-based control instead of a tree-view control; it became possible to pull content from multiple locations including those belonging to other groups, and this and all other browse widgets became allowed for group owners.

Purpose: Displays the list of blog posts on the Web site.

Additional configuration options:

  • Widget Title - Title of the widget.
  • View Type- Specifies how the posts are viewed.
    • Filtered/Paged List - Displays blog post details, such as the blog, author, published date, and post excerpt. (View type shown in the screen shot above.)
    • Not Filtered/Not Paged List - Displays no post details.

    • First Post Excerpt/Not Filtered/Not Paged - Displays post details for the first blog in the list but displays no details for all succeeding posts.

  • Sort Posts By- Specifies how you want the post sorted.
    • Most Recent - Displays in descending order from the most recent post to the oldest.
    • Most Viewed - Displays in descending order the posts that have been most often viewed to the least viewed.
    • Most Comments - Displays in descending order the posts with the most comments to the least comments.
  • View Detail- Specifies whether you want post details displayed with the view type.
    • List View

  • User Query Type- Specifies which posts you want to display in the list.
    • All - Displays all the posts in the list, regardless of author.
    • Logged in user - Shows the posts authored by the logged-in user.
    • Current user - Displays only the posts authored by users other than the logged-in user.
  • Select group/blog to pull content from - Allows you to select a group, blog site root, or specific blog from which to pull the posts to display.
  • Tag to filter posts by - Allows you to filter posts by their tags.
  • Show comment count - Displays the number of comments with each post.
  • Excerpt size - Specifies the maximum number of characters to display in the post excerpt. If you enter 0, the widget will use the default value of 250 characters.

Purpose: Displays the blog search form.

Blog - Title

Purpose: Displays the blog title.

  • Set Page Title - If checked, enables you to add an RSS feed from the title box.
