Installing the Windows Service

In order to display presence information for Telligent Connect for Microsoft Lync, you must first install and configure the Unified Communications Service on your application server. This service is a Windows service and should only be installed on a single server, preferably the server where your Telligent Job Scheduler is installed.

Obtain the installation package from Telligent Support.
Open the Extensions folder.
Open the TelligentConnectForMicrosoftLync zip file.
Open the Services folder.
From the installation package in the Services folder, execute TelligentUCServiceInstaller.msi.
Navigate to the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Telligent\Unified Communications Service).

Edit the Telligent.Enterprise.UC.CollaborationService.exe.configfile and alter the following settings according to the table:

The service exposes its functionality to Telligent Enterprise using Web services. You can change the URL Telligent Enterprise uses to communicate to this service by altering the following line in the same file:

You would also have to alter this URL if your Web server and service are not running on the same machine.
In the same directory, locate the file installservice.bat and execute it as an Administrator (right-click, select Run as Administrator) to install the Windows service.
NOTE: This file assumes a path of "C:\Program Files\Telligent\Unified Communcations Service" as the installation path. If you installed into a different directory, you will need to edit the installservice.bat file and change the path to the Telligent.Enterprise.UC.CollaborationService.exe file before executing.
Depending on your architecture, you may need to open TCP port 8732, or whichever port you may have defined in step 4, in the Windows firewall on the installation server for both incoming and outgoing communications.
In Administrative Tools > Services, right-click the Telligent Unified Communications Service, select Properties, and set the start up option to Automatic.
Start the Telligent Unified Communications Service.

Installing into Telligent Enterprise

Once the service is configured and running, you will need to install the Telligent Enterprise Web files.

Always back up your files and database before installing anything into your Telligent Enterprise site.

Locate the Web folder in the installation package.
Copy the contents of the Web folder into your Telligent Enterprise site.

Within your Telligent Enterprise site, edit the web.config file located in the root and add the following information right before the closing </configuration>tag at the end of the file:

Configuring Telligent Connect for Microsoft Lync

Currently, Telligent Connect for Microsoft Lync is only compatible with the Evolution2 theme of Telligent Enterprise 3.0.

To use the Telligent Connect for Microsoft Lync integration, you must first enable it and add the widgets to their respective places.

Enable the Telligent Connect for Microsoft Lync plugin:
1. Log into Telligent Enterprise as an Administrator.
2. Access the Control Panel, navigate to Site Administration, and select Manage Plugins.
3. Locate the Telligent Connect for Microsoft Lync plugin and enable it by selecting the check box.
4. Click Save.
Add the Lync Enabled Site User Links Widget to the header:
1. On the homepage, as an Administrator, select Edit Page, then Edit Header.
2. There are two Site - User Navigation Links widgets at the top of the header; remove the one on the left by clicking the X.
3. In the Widget search box, type Lync.
4. Replace the the widget you just removed with the Lync Enabled Site User Navigation widget.
5. Change the border options to No Wrapper with No Spacing.
6. Click the pencil icon to configure the widget. Disable all the items except Browse Groups, Favorite Places, and Lync Chat. Save the configuration.
7. Lock the widget by clicking the padlock icon in the header.
8. Save the header, then save the page, choosing it as the new default.
Add the Lync Enabled User Hover Widget to the footer:
1. On the homepage, as an Administrator, select Edit Page, then Edit Footer.
2. Remove the User-Hover widget by clicking the X in the header.
3. In the Widget search box, type Lync.
4. Place the Lync Enabled User Hover in the same place where you removed the User-Hover widget.
5. As with the previous widget, adjust the border options to No Wrapper with No Spacing.
6. Save the footer, then the page, making it the new default version.
Add the Lync Enabled User Banner Widget to the user profile page:
1. As an Administrator, navigate to your profile page.
2. Select Edit Page.
3. Type Lync in the widget search box.
4. Replace the User- Banner widget with the Lync Enabled User Banner widget.
5. As before, change the border options to No Wrapper With No Spacing.
6. Save the page.

Contextual URLs defined

Several widgets in Telligent rely on a specific context or contextual data in order to display their contents properly. A widget used out of context either does not render at all or can result in errors. Telligent uses several techniques to determine context, but if you follow all of the paths to get contextual data, the root source of information is usually in the URL.

Types of contextual data

Contextual data is simply an object for which the content of the widget is based. For example, if you read a blog post, the contextual object is a specific blog post. Without it, the widget does not know what post in which blog you want to display. Some widgets function using contextual data but can also be set to a specific item. For example, the Blog - Post List widget is smart enough to determine whether it is in the context of a blog or a group, and will list blog posts depending on which is available. However, via widget configuration you can also set the blog or group specifically, bypassing the contextual data.

How context is retrieved in Sitecore

Telligent Connect for Sitecore uses the concept of wildcard items to define dynamic pieces of data in a URL. When rendering pages, the tree path usually determines your URL, matching the names of items specifically in the tree hierarchy. If you add a wildcard instead of a proper name for an item (which is done by giving the item a name * instead of a proper name), it will use this item to match any value at that place in the hierarchy that is not already specifically defined. For example, a path of /item1/subitem1/* will match /item1/subitem1/something.aspx or /item1/subitem1/12345.aspx.

Mappings, tokens and routes

The first part of understanding how to use wildcards with Telligent Connect for Sitecore is to understand some of the components. Most of the information explained here is set up for you. If you are starting a new community, you can leave the defaults in place.

Tokens (master: /sitecore/system/modules/TelligentEvolution/Urls/Tokens)

Tokens represent placeholders. They are used to replace the wildcard characters behind the scenes with an identifiable value. For example, a wildcard path like so /item/item2/*/* has no way of deciphering the first wildcard from the second. These values will be replaced by token values so that they can be easily identified as the data they represent, like a group ID or application key. You should never have to alter the values of tokens.

Position mappings (master: /sitecore/system/modules/TelligentEvolution/Urls/Position Mappings)

Position mappings define which wildcards in an item path will be replaced by what token value so they can later be extracted. A mapping is a collection of positions that define the wildcard's numeric position, or occurrence in the path, and the token to use to replace it. Consider our previous URL of /item/item2/*/*. A mapping you could create for this would have two positions: one for each wildcard and a token assigned to each position. The number of positions defined in the mapping are the minimum number of wildcards required in the path. The example below shows the default mapping for a blog post. It has three positions: GroupID, BlogKey, and Post Key. This means when we define a path for a blog post, we expect it to contain at least three wildcards (i.e., one for each position). We also then replace the position with the defined token so it is easier to extract the value in that position later.

Routes (master: /sitecore/system/modules/TelligentEvolution/Urls/Routes)

Routes are what tie tokens and mappings together. They are the one piece that requires some configuration. Routes determine which mapping to use based on the contextual item. A route combines a collection of items with a specific rule and action to extract data from the wildcards in the URL. A route can have multiple items and then a rule. The rule consists of a condition, which is usually checking that the item path has wildcards, and action to execute if true, which is the process of extracting the data based on the defined mapping you specify in the action. The example below defines a blog post route example. It has one target item so when that item URL is accessed, the condition checks for the presence of wildcards and extracts the values from those positions defined in the mapping. A route can have multiple items provided that every item can satisfy the same mapping.

Defining a route

Now let's focus on using the information to create a route. We are going to create a route for a blog post. We will utilize the the default route that is already defined and its mappings; we are simply going to add our item path. The goal is a resulting URL that you can display the blog post widget on.

Step 1: Review the mapping

By default there, is a BlogPostMapping already defined that utilizes the group ID, the blog application key, and the post slug or key. These are the minimum pieces of data needed to reliably retrieve a blog post when not using any of the post's IDs. Because we have three positions, our target item we will use for our URL needs to have a minimum of three wildcards in its path. With this mapping, the first wildcard will be the group ID; the second the blog's application key, and the last the post's slug or key.

Step 2: Create your item path

From this we can set up our item path. So we are going to create the following path (/sitecore/content/home/community/*/b/*/* ) which has our three wildcards. The resulting URL should be: http://mysite.com/en/community/{groupid}/b/{blogKey}/{postSlug}.aspx, given the mapping we discussed earlier.

You should be able to navigate to the URL you are trying to create and adding ?sc_mode=edit for the page editor to open. We do it this way rather than through the content manager to ensure all of the data in our wildcards exists. The content editor opens the item by ID, which means we cannot see contextual data because the wildcards are not present. In our case, we are going to http://hostname/en/community/3/b/sample_weblog/expanding-your-community.aspx?sc_mode=edit. You can see we replaced our wildcards with valid data:

On the page, add the Sitecore Debug Widget via the Telligent Community widget rendering, which is designed to show you contextual data for troubleshooting and verification:

Once added to the page, you will see it does not recognize a contextual blog post and blog, and the contextual group is Site Root, which is the default. In our case, group ID 3 is a sample group. So we can tell there is no route set up.

Furthermore, if you add another Telligent component to the page and make it show the Blog Post widget, it will not render:

To bring a blog post into context, we have to configure the route. The blog post route is already defined.

After saving, return to http://hostname/en/community/3/b/sample_weblog/expanding-your-community.aspx?sc_mode=edit and refresh the page. The post should now display. If you examine the debug widget a group, blog and post are now in context. You also see the tokens extracted from the URL.

Prerequisites

Telligent Community 6.0
Sitecore 6.4.1 or Sitecore 6.5
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (for both Telligent Community and Sitecore)

Install Telligent plugin

For Sitecore to communicate with your Telligent Community site, you must install a plugin that enables this communication to take place.

You should always back up your Web installation and database before installing components on your Telligent Community installation.

Locate the Telligent Evolution folder in the installation package.
Copy the contents of this folder to your Telligent Community Web installation. If you are using multiple Web servers, this should be repeated for each Web server.

Configure Telligent

Once you have installed the files, there are a few changes you need to make inside your community to complete the installation process.

Enable the plugin

As an administrator, navigate to the Control Panel.
Navigate to System Administration > Site Administration > Manage Plugins.
Select the Remote Studio Widget Support check box.
Click Save.

Modify global account settings

Sitecore uses a Domain\Username pattern for their username to ensure uniqueness. Telligent, by default, does not allow you to add a slash ("\") in a username. To change this restriction, do the following:

As an administrator, navigate to the Control Panel.
Navigate to System Administration > Membership Administration > Configuration > Account Settings.
In the Username regular expression pattern, modify the entry by adding \\ right before the final ]. Example: ^[a-zA-Z0-9_\- @\.\\]+$
Save your changes.
Optional: If you have a username that contains "admin", it will be blocked by Telligent. If you wish to have this account automatically created, you must go to System Administration > Site Administration > Content/Site Security > Username filters and remove "admin" from the list of disallowed names and save.

It is important to note that in order for Telligent Connect for Sitecore to create a user, the following conditions must be met:

The username meets the username regular expression restriction (see above).
The user must have an email address in Sitecore and that email address cannot be already in use on your community.
The Sitecore username must not already be in use in your community.

Install into Sitecore

Telligent Connect for Sitecore is installed into your Sitecore installation using the Package Installation Wizard.

Change your Sitecore IIS Settings: In order for Telligent Connect for Sitecore to work with your community, you must run your Sitecore site under .NET 4.0. Change your application pool settings for your Sitecore site to use .NET 4.0 in integrated mode.

Back up your Web files and databases before continuing.

Log into the Sitecore Desktop as an administrator.
From the Sitecore button, select Development Tools > Installation Wizard.
You will need to upload the Sitecore package from the installation package. The Sitecore package is located in the installation package in the Sitecore folder. It is a zip file that should be labeled Telligent Connect for Sitecore with a version number.
Once it is uploaded, if it did not pre-populate the package you uploaded, click browse and select it.
Click Next and verify the version information matches what is on the package name.
Click Install. This process will take several minutes to complete.
When prompted, restart both the Sitecore client and server.

Configure Sitecore

Make sure you are connected to the master database and open the Content Editor.
In the tree, navigate to the following item: /sitecore/System/Modules/TelligentEvolution/Configuration.

Fill in the configuration data fields according to the following table:

Field	Required?	Description
Service Account	Yes	A Telligent user that facilitates communications between Sitecore and your community. This account should at minimum possess Site - Impersonate User rights.
API Key	Yes	A generated API key for the user assigned to be the service account. You should create an API key specific to Sitecore if you are reusing an account previously used as a service account for other applications.
API Key Name	Yes	The case-sensitive name you had to give to the API key you created for the service account.
User Name (Http Authentication)	No	The user name of a Windows account that can satisfy a windows challenge (if your community utilizes one).
Password (Http Authentication)	No	The password associated with the Http authentication user name.
Domain (Http Authentication)	No	The domain associated with the Http authentication user name if applicable.

Save the item.
You now need to publish everything. You can do this by selecting publish from the Content Editor menu and selecting the arrow under the globe labeled publish. Choose Publish Site.
You can choose to do a Smart Publish; however, if that doesn't initially work, do a full republish.
Recycle the Sitecore Web server application pools to clear all the caches.

Prerequisites

Telligent Enterprise 3.0
Sitecore 6.4.1 or Sitecore 6.5
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (for both Telligent Enterprise and Sitecore)

Install Telligent plugin

For Sitecore to communicate with your Telligent Enterprise site, you must install a plugin that enables this communication to take place.

You should always back up your Web installation and database before installing components on your Telligent Enterprise installation.

Locate the Telligent Evolution folder in the installation package.
Copy the contents of this folder to your Telligent Enterprise Web installation. If you are using multiple Web servers, this should be repeated for each Web server.

Configure Telligent

Once you have installed the files, there are a few changes you need to make inside your community to complete the installation process.

Enable the plugin

As an administrator, navigate to the Control Panel.
Navigate to System Administration > Site Administration > Manage Plugins.
Select the Remote Studio Widget Support check box.
Click Save.

Modify global account settings

As an administrator, navigate to the Control Panel.
Navigate to System Administration > Membership Administration > Configuration > Account Settings.
In the Username regular expression pattern, modify the entry by adding \\ right before the final ]. Example: ^[a-zA-Z0-9_\- @\.\\]+$
Save your changes.
Optional: If you have a username that contains "admin", it will be blocked by Telligent. If you wish to have this account automatically created, you must go to System Administration > Site Administration > Content/Site Security > Username filters and remove "admin" from the list of disallowed names and save.

It is important to note that in order for Telligent Connect for Sitecore to create a user, the following conditions must be met:

The username meets the username regular expression restriction (see above).
The user must have an email address in Sitecore and that email address cannot be already in use on your community.
The Sitecore username must not already be in use in your community.

Install into Sitecore

Telligent Connect for Sitecore is installed into your Sitecore installation using the Package Installation Wizard.

Back up your Web files and databases before continuing.

Log into the Sitecore Desktop as an administrator.
From the Sitecore button, select Development Tools > Installation Wizard.
You will need to upload the Sitecore package from the installation package. The Sitecore package is located in the installation package in the Sitecore folder. It is a zip file that should be labeled Telligent Connect for Sitecore with a version number.
Once it is uploaded, if it did not pre-populate the package you uploaded, click browse and select it.
Click Next and verify the version information matches what is on the package name.
Click Install. This process will take several minutes to complete.
When prompted, restart both the Sitecore client and server.

Configure Sitecore

Make sure you are connected to the master database and open the Content Editor.
In the tree, navigate to the following item: /sitecore/System/Modules/TelligentEvolution/Configuration.

Fill in the configuration data fields according to the following table:

Field	Required?	Description
Service Account	Yes	A Telligent user that facilitates communications between Sitecore and your community. This account should at minimum possess Site - Impersonate User rights.
API Key	Yes	A generated API key for the user assigned to be the service account. You should create an API key specific to Sitecore if you are reusing an account previously used as a service account for other applications.
API Key Name	Yes	The case-sensitive name you had to give to the API key you created for the service account.
User Name (Http Authentication)	No	The user name of a Windows account that can satisfy a windows challenge (if your community utilizes one).
Password (Http Authentication)	No	The password associated with the Http authentication user name.
Domain (Http Authentication)	No	The domain associated with the Http authentication user name if applicable.
Base Url	Yes	The base URL of your community site (e.g., http://your-community.com)

To uninstall Telligent Connect for Sitecore, you must manually remove the items that were created on installation.

Uninstall from Sitecore

Always back up your Web files and database before proceeding.

Uninstall Sitecore items

Connect to the core database.
Open the Content Editor.
Delete the following items and their children. If prompted about links, choose to Remove Links:
- /sitecore/content/Applications/TelligentEvolution
- /sitecore/content/Applications/WebEdit/Custom Experience Buttons/Telligent Evolution
- /sitecore/content/Documents and settings/All users/Start menu/Right/Development Tools/Telligent Widget Upload
- /sitecore/layout/Layouts/Modules/TelligentEvolution
Connect to the master database.
Open the Content Editor.
Delete the following items and their children. If prompted about links, choose to Remove Links. If you receive an error from deleting a parent item, go back and first delete the children
- /sitecore/Layout/Renderings/Telligent Evolution.
- /sitecore/System/Modules/TelligentEvolution
- /sitecore/System/Settings/Rules/TelligentEvolution

Unless you have other dependencies on .NET 4 and the version of Sitecore you are using originally used a lower version, you can revert to the recommended version of the .NET framework for your version of Sitecore.

Uninstall From Telligent

Always back up your Web files and database before proceeding.

Sign in as an Administrator and navigate to the Control Panel.
Go to System Administration > Site Administration > Manage Plugins and deselect the to Remote Studio Widget Support check box.
Click Save.
Go to your Telligent Community web folder and complete the following:
1. Delete Telligent.Evolution.RemoteScriptedContentFragmentsPlugin.dll from the /bin folder.
2. Delete the entire /rsw directory.

Step 3: Set up your route

To bring a blog post into context, we have to configure the route. The blog post route is already defined.

Edit the BlogPostRoute and select Edit rule on the right to bring up the rule editor.
For the condition, under Telligent select target item has wildcards.
For the action, select the replace wildcards as defined in specific position mappings item.
Click specific position mappings item.
Select BlogPostMapping.
Click OK.
Click Edit above items and select the target item, which in this case is the last wildcard in our item path. Click OK.
Save the route.

Making the Telligent widget component available

In Sitecore, you may have to configure a placeholder so that the Telligent component can be used. This method uses the Sitecore Page Editor for this purpose. There are potential other ways, and you should consult the Sitecore documentation for your version to confirm your approach.

Choose the page or item you wish to add the component to and enter the page editor.
Select the placeholder you wish to configure. For example, here we are using the sample item as the basis for our pages. Click the icon to edit the placeholder settings.
If the Telligent widget is not listed as an allowed control, you add it by selecting Edit. If it is allowed, you can skip the rest of this section.
Expand the Renderings tree on the left and select Telligent Evolution, Telligent Evolution Widgetby clicking the arrow to move it to the Selected list.
Click OK.
Click Save in the placeholder settings window.

Adding and configuring the Telligent widget

Choose the page or item you wish to add the component to and enter the page editor.
Select the placeholder you wish to add the widget to, and click Add to here.
Select the Telligent widget rendering and click Select.
IMPORTANT: You must now save the page in order to configure the Telligent widget.
After saving the page, click the Configurebutton to open the widget configuration.
Select the widget you wish to use; in this example, the Blog - Post List widget is used. The configuration options will load for that widget so you can configure the settings you wish.
In this example, we select a blog to show the posts from.
When you are done configuring the widget, click Save.
You will need to refresh the page for the widget to render.

Some widgets require context information to display, while others allow you to set the context. The Blog - Post List widget allows you to select a blog or group and can be used out of context, while the Blog Post widget needs to be in the context of a blog post. You can always modify widgets to be context-settable via existing properties or custom components, or learn [[Working with contextual URLs in Sitecore|learn how to create context-based URLsURLs]].

Expand the Renderings tree on the left and select Telligent Evolution, Telligent Evolution Widgetby clicking the arrow to move it to the Selected list.
Click OK.
Click Save in the placeholder settings window.

Adding and configuring the Telligent widget

Choose the page or item you wish to add the component to and enter the page editor.
Select the placeholder you wish to add the widget to, and click Add to here.
Select the Telligent widget rendering and click Select.
IMPORTANT: You must now save the page in order to configure the Telligent widget.
After saving the page, click the Configurebutton to open the widget configuration.
Select the widget you wish to use; in this example, the Blog - Post List widget is used. The configuration options will load for that widget so you can configure the settings you wish.
In this example, we select a blog to show the posts from.
When you are done configuring the widget, click Save.
You will need to refresh the page for the widget to render.
